This Is My First Time Learning About Her 💔😭 This Is So Touching! Keep Resting Justina, you are a hero!
The nurse who never returned: The forgotten sacrifice of Justina Obi Ejelonu
It was supposed to be the beginning of something new...
A new job
A new chapter
A new life growing quietly inside her...
On that morning in 2014, Justina Obi Ejelonu, 25yrs old glowing with the signs of early pregnancy, struggled to rise from her bed. The morning sickness had been heavy, her stomach twisting with nausea, but her heart was full of hope. It was her first day at First Consultant Hospital Obalende, Lagos. Her fiancé held her hand and gently whispered, "you'll be fine go and do what you were trained to do".
She smiled, she believed him
That smile was the last calm moment of her life.
Justina's first patient was a man no one would forget: Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American whose body harbored the invincible death that would change her faith forever.
As an attendant nurse, she did what she was trained to do.
She checked his vital.
Helped him feed.
Touched the things he touched.
She never knew death would take her that day
She took precautions,
She was very careful,
She wore her gloves,
But, Ebola! Oh Ebola doesn't knock
It creeps.
Her final message to the world.....
"I never contacted his fluids, I checked his vitals, helped him feed( he was too weak) I touched where he touched and that's the only contact not directly with his fluids. At a moment, he tugged off his infusion and we had blood everywhere in his bed...but the ward maid took care of that and changed his linens very carefully"....
Then silence.
Her phone went dead
And so did she, shortly after...
Justina was moved to the isolation center, alone and anxious, knowing her unborn child wouldn't survive it. She died, not just as a nurse, but as a mother who never got to hold her baby. She was the first Nigerian health worker to die in the Ebola outbreak.
She gave her life to protect a nation
Today she's forgotten, out of mind, erased...
Let us remember her, not just as a name in the dominance of HISTORY, but as heroine who never made it home.
May get soul, and the soul of her unborn child continue to rest in peace....
