Purification and Refinement
One of the most profound "depths" of burning is the idea of the Refiner’s Fire. This isn't about punishment, but about improvement.
The Metal Analogy: Biblical writers often compare the human soul to gold or silver. Just as a smith uses intense heat to separate dross (impurities) from precious metal, "burning" trials are seen as a way to purify a person’s faith.
Isaiah’s Coal: In Isaiah 6, an angel touches the prophet’s lips with a burning coal. While painful, the act is described as taking away guilt and atoning for sin.
