The installation of Princess Joyce Ibimidun Adesola Oladiran-Ebiseni as the Regent of the Kalasuwe of Apoi Land marked a historic milestone in the history of both the Ijaw-Apoi Kingdom in Western Ijaw and the Central Ijaw zone.
Princess Joyce, the daughter of the transitioned Kalasuwe (Oba) Samuel Adetimehin Oladiran, Ogele Dumu III, ascended the throne as regent in March 2011, four years after her father joined his ancestors in 2007, following an exceptional 52-year reign.
The Apoi Kingdom, an ancient Ijaw domain in Ondo State, is made up of nine communities: Kiribo, Sabomi, Oboro, Igbobini, Inikorogha, Ojuala, Igbekebo, and Ipoke. The revered title “Kalasuwe”, meaning “God among humans” in Ijaw-Apoi language, represents a First Class traditional institution recognized in Ondo State.
