Your car AC is chilling. It’s a Lexus. You’re travelling to Abuja from Markudi . Alone. Your wife and kids 3 are at home.

You get to Lafi and a beautiful lady starts to wave at you frantically, cupping her hand in that way that means that she needs help. You bring your car to a halt, wind down your window and she tells you she needs a lift to Keffi. She looks genuine with her plea. You ask her to come into the passenger’s seat.

As you’re driving, you guys do some small talk. From Lafia to Akwanga, you are conversing while the stereo releases some cool music.

As you approach and step on the pedals, both of you fall into silence and allow the music to serenade you. Her head is fully rested on the headrest, adjusted a bit into a reclined position for rest.

At a police checkpoint, the policeman flags you.

“Where are you going?”

“Abuja, Sir,”

He rolls his eyes around your interior. And then to your passenger.

“Is she OK or she’s sleeping?” Policeman asks.

You turn to see her, eyes closed, head reclined. You tap her to wake her. Once. Twice. You tap harder. She’s unresponsive.

What will you do?

Exclusive: Governor Agbu Kefas Suspends TSU VC Prof Sunday Bako , Dissolves Governing Council Over Administrative Incompetence

•Sets To Appoint Sole-Administrator

Governor Agbu Kefas has suspended the Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, Professor Sunday Bako, and dissolved the institution’s Governing Council with immediate effect, citing persistent strikes and alleged administrative incompetence.

Taraba Truth and Facts gathered that the governor announced the decision during an address to members of the Governing Council, management staff, and leaders of ASUU and SSANU at the university.

He said the recurring industrial actions had disrupted academic activities and negatively affected over 20,000 students currently enrolled at the institution, which was established in 2008 under the administration of the late Danbaba Suntai.

Kefas noted that the state government had made significant interventions to stabilize the university, including the constitution of a Governing Council, full funding of salaries and wages, implementation of the new national minimum wage — which he described as the highest among northern Nigerian state universities — accreditation and re-accreditation of courses, expansion of infrastructure, and ongoing implementation of the staff pension scheme.

Despite these measures, Taraba Truth and Facts gathered that the governor expressed concern that strikes had continued unabated, blaming what he described as the inability of the management and Governing Council to maintain discipline among staff and students.

“As Visitor to the University, with the mandate to reform and reposition it, I must take painful but necessary decisions to save the institution from drifting into decline,” the governor said.

He consequently directed the immediate dissolution of the Governing Council and ordered the Vice Chancellor to proceed on indefinite suspension. He also announced plans to appoint a Sole Administrator to oversee the affairs of the university pending further reforms.

In addition, Kefas disclosed that a Personnel Audit Committee would be constituted to screen, verify, and document all staff of the institution.

The governor reiterated that his administration had declared a state of emergency in the education sector, introducing free and compulsory education policies aimed at increasing enrollment, improving infrastructure, and addressing the challenge of out-of-school children across Taraba State.

He stressed that efforts to improve access to quality education in the state would not be compromised.

The protests may not have achieved much but at least, the protesters have raised the consciousness of Nigerians about electoral reforms. To this, we must thank all stakeholders including protesters, opposition and even the ruling party - they all form part of the democratic equation.

This is why I have a problem with DEMOCRACY 1.0 - it is moribund.
We need Democracy 2.0 - Government for the People by the Capable.

This “Majority” thing has proven that majority can also be wrong but even if they are wrong, they will become right because they are majority.

We need a new version of democracy that mimics the American Democracy. America doesn’t believe 100% in MAJORITY - otherwise, Trump would never have been president in the first place.
In 2016, Hilary Clinton won the MAJORITY VOTE in America. 65.8 million people voted for Hilary while 62.9 million people voted for Trump.
So Hilary won Trump by 2.9 million votes.

But America has what they call the electoral college. It was the electoral votes that made Trump President despite losing MAJORITY INDIVIDUAL VOTES.

We need such protective second layer system in Nigeria’s Democracy 2.0

This is why I laugh when people PROTEST in Nigeria - as long as Nigeria is concerned, politics must be STRATEGIC to lure the majority to your side. You can’t be MINORITY and expect to win MAJORITY without STRATEGY.

You can’t be emotional and sentimental about this fact. This is not about WHO IS MOST QUALIFIED OR CAPABLE. Nigeria doesn’t run politics of the capable yet. Nigeria runs politics of MAJORITY. Numbers matter the most - not morals, integrity, capacity or even intelligence. If someone like Charles Awuzie decides to be president of Nigeria someday, I will find the biggest political party and take over the political structures like Trump. I will spend money until people will beg me to stop spending - not buying votes but taking over structures if I can’t build from scratch like Tinubu. I will set aside at least 500 million USD for the political structure and another 500 million USD for campaign expenses. Trump spent $1.4 Billion to take power. Tinubu spent around 100 Billion Naira to take power. I will budget at least $1 Billion to take power in Nigeria.

Projecting my intelligence, innovation , hardwork, morals etc will only win me PITY AND LOVE but it will never give me power. Power belongs to the people and the people are structured in parties, tribes, religions and regions. Target the structures and the people will follow through the structures.

This is the current reality of democracy 1.0 in Nigeria. I’ve just shared facts with you - I may actually not do this because you can spend $1B and still get sabotaged. I shared this just to give you an idea of how things work in Nigeria and why the majority favours the strategic and not the most honest.

Oya crucify me with your emotions because you think politics with your feelings and not reality.

ASUU-TSU RESUMES SUSPENDED TOTAL, COMPREHENSIVE, AND INDEFINITE STRIKE ACTION

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) Branch, hereby informs the general public, students, parents, and all stakeholders that it has resumed its previously suspended total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike action.

This action follows the failure of the Taraba State Government to implement the terms of the agreement reached with the Union on January 17, 2025. The strike was earlier suspended in good faith to allow the government adequate time to address the agreed issues. However, the government has failed to take concrete and verifiable steps toward fulfilling its obligations.

After a careful review of the situation, the Congress of ASUU-TSU on 18th February, 2026 resolved that the continued neglect of these longstanding issues leaves the Union with no alternative but to resume the suspended strike.

For the avoidance of doubt the reasons for the resumption of the strike hinges on the following:-

1. Absence of a functional pension scheme for the university.

2. Failure to pay the backlog of outstanding salaries owed to our members.

3. Inability of the government to settle accumulated Earned Academic Allowances (EAA).

4. The implantation of the newly negotiated ASUU-FGN agreement of 2025.

These issues have persisted for an extended period and have severely affected staff welfare, morale, and the overall functioning of the university system. ASUU-TSU wishes to emphasize that this action is a last resort, taken only after sustained dialogue and the government's failure to honour its commitments. The Union remains open to constructive engagement.

Comradely yours,

Dr. Garba, Mbave Joshua
Chairperson, ASUU-TSU
