2027 Presidency:
Seyi Makinde - Nigeria’s Clear Choice for Greater Height.

Dikko Mahmoud is writing from Minna, Niger State.

July 21, 2025.

As Nigeria stands at a critical juncture in this era of hardship and economic uncertainty under the failed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has emerged as a beacon of true hope, leadership, and transformative governance in Nigeria in 2027.

His proven track record, visionary policies, and unwavering commitment to people-centered development position him as Nigeria’s choice for a brighter and more prosperous future.

Since assuming office in 2019, Governor Makinde has redefined governance in Oyo State, prioritizing education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, security, etc.

His administration’s innovative approach has led to unprecedented achievements, including:

• Economic Growth: Under Makinde’s leadership, Oyo State has risen to third in Nigeria’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) rankings, with significant strides in local government revenue generation.

His strategic investments, such as the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, redesignated as Nigeria’s first Agricultural Transformation Centre by the African Development Bank, have positioned Oyo State as a model for economic prosperity.

• Youth Empowerment: Makinde’s youth-friendly policies have empowered thousands through entrepreneurship training, digital literacy programs, and inclusive governance.

His administration’s commitment to preparing Nigerian youths for the future was evident at the 2024 Students’ Legislative Summit, where he pledged to support the next generation of leaders.

• Infrastructure Development:
From the rehabilitation of critical roads like the Moniya-Iseyin Road to the remodeling of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Makinde’s focus on infrastructure has enhanced connectivity and economic activity across Oyo State.

• Healthcare Access: Makinde’s vision of healthcare as a right, not a privilege, has led to transformative initiatives, including free health missions and the elimination of diseases like river blindness in multiple local government areas.

• Transparent Governance:
His administration’s commitment to timely salary and pension payments—clearing over N13 billion in pension arrears in two years—has restored dignity to workers and retirees, setting a national benchmark.

Governor Makinde’s leadership extends beyond Oyo State. His advocacy for true federalism, devolution of powers, and state policing reflects a bold vision for Nigeria’s future.

At the 2021 National Democracy Summit, he emphasized restructuring as the path to economic prosperity and sustainable democracy, earning widespread acclaim for his forward-thinking approach.

As Nigeria looks toward 2027, Governor Makinde’s statesmanship, demonstrated through his landslide re-election in 2023 and endorsements from diverse groups like the Omituntun Initiative in the Diaspora, underscores his growing national influence.

His ability to foster unity, deliver measurable results, and inspire hope makes him a leading voice for Nigeria’s presidency.

Governor Makinde’s focus on sustainable development, transparency, and inclusivity offers a roadmap for Nigeria’s progress.

In view of the above, Nigerians across the globe are rallying behind Seyi Makinde, a leader whose actions speak louder than promises.

As we move toward a better future, his vision, competence, and dedication make him the clear choice to lead Nigeria to new heights.

Infrastructure Development in Oyo State under Governor Makinde:

The dualisation of the 8.3 km Akobo-Ojurin-Olorunda Abaa Road by the Lagelu Local Government Council is now complete.

An update and pictures of the 8.3 km Akobo-Ojurin-Olorunda Abaa Road. The dualisation of the 8.3 km Akobo-Ojurin-Olorunda Abaa Road, executed by the Lagelu Local Government Council, is now completed.

This strategic road project, which was flagged off on the 9th of June 2023, was designed to enhance the connectivity between Akobo and Olorunda Abaa, through Olorunda.

With construction now finished, residents and commuters are already benefiting from reduced travel times and smoother access along the corridor.

Although progress was initially slowed by necessary demolitions, including sections of the Nigerian Army Barracks fence to accommodate the expanded dual carriageway, the project eventually picked up pace.

The road features a fully tarred surface, integrated drainage systems, and pedestrian walkways to enhance safety and longevity.

Solar-powered streetlights have also been installed, ensuring the road remains accessible and secured at night.

The completion of this project marks a major milestone in Lagelu LGA’s infrastructure development efforts.

It is a clear example of how Local Government Councils are taking bold steps to improve daily life for residents.

The Akobo-Ojurin-Olorunda Abaa Road is already easing congestion in the area and is expected to further stimulate socio-economic activities along the route.

This project aligns with the Oyo State Government’s broader commitment to enhancing road infrastructure across the state, with similar projects ongoing in other Local Government Areas.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, another Leading Voice for Nigeria’s Presidency in 2027.

Abdul Abubakar is in Katsina, Katsina State.

As Nigeria looks toward the 2027 general elections, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has emerged as a towering figure in the nation’s political landscape, with growing calls for him to contest for the presidency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Renowned for his transformative leadership, Makinde’s achievements in Oyo State have positioned him as a beacon of progressive governance, sparking nationwide support for his potential candidacy.

Governor Makinde, a two-term governor and seasoned engineer, has consistently demonstrated the capacity to lead with vision, integrity, and accountability.

During a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Makinde affirmed his readiness to occupy Nigeria’s highest office, stating, “I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land, and I have what it takes.”

While emphasizing his focus on current responsibilities in Oyo State, he highlighted the need for thorough preparation and accountability, qualities that have defined his tenure as governor.

Under Makinde’s leadership, Oyo State has witnessed unprecedented development in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture. His administration’s strategic initiatives, such as the revitalization of the Fashola Agribusiness Hub and the construction of major roads like the 34-kilometer Oyo-Oke Ogun and 76.6-kilometer Iseyin-Ogbomoso routes, have boosted economic productivity and connectivity.

Makinde’s focus on self-sustaining economic policies has reduced Oyo State’s dependence on federal allocations, setting a model for fiscal responsibility that resonates nationally.

The groundswell of support for Makinde’s potential presidential bid is evident across Nigeria. In Kano, the Nigeria Youths Awareness Group Makinde 2027 (NYAG Makinde 2027) has mobilized extensively, with campaign posters proclaiming “To Move Nigeria Forward, Seyi Makinde Is the Answer” adorning major city routes.

The group’s National Secretary, Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, praised Makinde as “the most viable candidate capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges come 2027.”

Similarly, the Brave New Vision support group in Lagos and the PDP National Rebranding Forum have endorsed Makinde, citing his competence and unifying leadership as critical for Nigeria’s future.

Hon. Dare Adeleke, caretaker chairman of the Ekiti State PDP, recently declared, “If Makinde runs for president, he will win. The people are tired of empty slogans and are now wiser than ever.”

This sentiment reflects the growing public and political backing for Makinde, who is seen as a vibrant, youthful leader capable of challenging the status quo.

Governor Makinde’s focus remains on strengthening the PDP and delivering on his mandate in Oyo State, where he continues to prioritize infrastructure, security through initiatives like Amotekun, and economic empowerment.

As Nigeria navigates economic and social challenges, Governor Seyi Makinde’s track record offers a compelling vision for national leadership.

His emphasis on productivity, good governance, and inclusive development has sparked hope among Nigerians seeking a leader who can unite and transform the nation.

The 2027 elections, as Makinde has noted, will be a defining moment, a contest between Nigerians and the challenges posed by ineffective governance of the failed All Progressives Congress (APC) administration .

PRESS RELEASE

Landmark Infrastructure, Health Facilities, Others Built by Oyo State LG Councils- Ojo..Says Councils Sponsor 429 Students to Technical University, Nursing School, Technical College Annually.

Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, has said that local governments in the state have built several landmark infrastructure, health and educational facilities in the last two years of Governor 'Seyi Makinde's second term of office.

The Commissioner added that despite misconceptions that councils in the state have not done much, they have, indeed, collaborated with the state government to take part in the building of key projects across the 33 local government areas.

Ojo stated this on Monday, during the Omituntun 2.0 Inter-Ministerial Briefing organised by the Media Unit of the Governor's Office and held at the Governor's Briefing Room.
This was as he noted that the 33 Local Governments of Oyo State have, on an annual basis, been sponsoring a total of 429 indigent students in various higher institutions in the state and outside.

He noted that the councils sponsor six students each to the Senator Abiola Ajimobi Technical University; five students each to study Nursing, Community Nursing and Midwifery as well as another two students per council to a technical college.

He added that each of the councils also sponsor five youths under the Youth Entrepreneurs in Agribusiness Programme (YEAP) to study different areas of agribusiness in Nasarawa State and School of Forestry.

According to Ojo, the constitutional provision of the State-Local Government Joint Account means that the state is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the deployment of resources for projects, duties and responsibilities across councils.
He declared that Governor Makinde has ensured that councils' resources are judiciously spent for the benefits of residents of the state.

Mentioning some of the key projects undertaken by councils in the state, Ojo listed the rebuilding of the collapsed Olodo Bridge in Egbeda Local Government, the construction of the Farmers' Market in Akinyele Local Government, the construction of the ultramodern Olubadan Palace and the ongoing upgrading of 66 Primary Healthcare Centres, among others.

Ojo added that the rehabilitation of 14km Eruwa-Maya Road, the limited rehabilitation of 62km Igboora-Igangan-Elekookan-Iganna Road, the rehabilitation of Oremeji-Agugu Express-Oremeji-Babanla Church Road in Ona Ara Local Government and the construction of Primary Healthcare Centres in Tech-U and LAUTECH Iseyin, among others, are also parts of the projects executed by local governments.

Ojo declared that his Ministry coordinates the affairs of the 33 local governments and the LCDAs and also manages their finances, adding that the councils also cater to the welfare of elected and appointed local government officials, civil servants and pensioners in the Local Government Service Commission and the traditional institution in each of the councils through payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities and allowances.

He said: "The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters is saddled with the responsibility of managing and coordinating the affairs of the 33 local governments in Oyo State.

"That is basically what we do. In managing them like that, the most important thing is that we have to manage their finances. A lot of people outside don't really understand the relationship between the state government and the local government in terms of finances.

"This is a constitutional matter. The 1999 constitution (as amended) already states it. The State-Local Government Joint Allocation Committee manages funds from the federation account. It is between the state and the local governments. And, the state has been saddled with the responsibility of disbursement.

“The governor of the state is always the chairman of that committee. So, he has the responsibility of taking decisions on how to manage the allocation coming from the federation account.

"All the local governments already know what is expected of them. They have their approval limits and all that.

"The local governments in Oyo State have recorded a lot of achievements but it's a joint thing between the state and the local government areas. There are many projects that have been done by the local governments.
The issue is that the local government will request that they want to do projects, but because their approval limit is not up to that project cost, they have to bring it to the state.

"Since the money has to be taken from JAAC, they have to bring it here. That is the procedure that we operate by. And when they bring it here, the Engineering Consultant will take a look at it and come to a figure, which will then be approved by the governor before the project will start.

"During the governor's first term, we reconstructed the burnt Akesan Market. Under normal circumstances, Oyo East Local Government's allocation could not do the project if it was not done jointly.

"In Egbeda, the local government constructed the double box culverts and concrete drainage on Ogundipe River and Kumapayi as well as the Olodo Bridge. You know what the Olodo Bridge has been able to do to ease the traffic in Ibadanland.

"Also in Egbeda, asphalt tarring of roads in Alarere community leading to the palace of the late Olubadan, Senator Lekan Balogun was done by the council. Those that know that area would see the road network.

"In each of the local government areas, the achievements of councils stand as evidence but many people might not know who did what, which is why they have continued to misconstrue the council's efforts. SUBEB is building primary schools, Primary Health Centres are being renovated and upgraded across the state and all these are linked to the local governments.

"Currently, they are upgrading 66 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state. We just paid for that."
Apart from physical projects, the Commissioner maintained that local governments in the state have also been making huge contributions in the area of education and human capital development through the provision of full scholarships to students of Oyo State extraction.

He said: "We have a partnership arrangement between the local government and the Senator Abiola Ajimobi Technical University. Each local government sponsors six indigent students on full scholarship every session. The scholarship for this new session was approved by the governor a few days ago.

"We always receive nominations from all the local governments; there is no interference from the state. The local governments are expected to nominate the six students.

"We also have full scholarships for five indigent students from each local government to study at the College of Nursing and Midwifery on a yearly basis. Another is that the local governments sponsor three students each to a technical college.

"So, when you look at it, we are sponsoring 13 students from each local government per year. If you quantify that, you will know how much we are spending on these students from all the 33 local government areas every year.

"We have also gotten involved in training youths from the 33 local governments for agribusiness and agriculture. There are like 15 per local government area, who will go to Nasarawa and another 15 per local government who will go to the School of Forestry. They are up to like four batches. This is why His Excellency is always saying that he has enough trained hands that will take care of all the agricultural developments that the state government is working on.

"At the traditional level, we have been able to appoint holders of chieftaincies. Between 2023 and now, we have done a lot of things. We have installed and organised coronation ceremonies for the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Alaafin of Oyo, Soun of Ogbomoso, Aseyin of Iseyin, Eleruwa of Eruwaland and so on. This is unprecedented.

"This shows that the governor is in full support of the traditional institution in Oyo State. And, as I have said, if the traditional institution is put in proper perspective, that means the issue of threats at the local government level and the grassroots level will be reduced. They will take care of their domains.”

He added that his Ministry is also in charge of training local government workers and paying the remunerations of local government workers, retirees and political functionaries as well as the traditional institution.

The Commissioner attended the briefing with the Coordinating Director of the Ministry, Mr. Oladotun Ajibola; Director of Local Government Affairs, Mrs. O.T. Akanji; Director of Finance and Accounts, Mr. Marvelous Odesina; Director of Admin and Supplies, Mrs. Bola Ayeni and the Deputy Director, Inspectorate, Mrs. Adesumbo Bolaji.

An update on the rehabilitation of the 37.1 km Alako–Idiya–Batake–Olowa–Ijaiye Farm Settlement Road in Ido LGA under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) in Oyo State.

As part of its commitment to improving rural access and driving agricultural development, the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde has begun the rehabilitation of the Alako–Idiya–Batake–Olowa Farm Settlement–Ijaiye Farm Settlement Road in Ido Local Government Area.

This vital 37.1-kilometre stretch will be surfaced using single-coat surface dressing, a durable technique suitable for rural corridors with high agricultural activity.

This road is one of six rural roads currently under construction across seven Local Government Areas in the State through the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

This initiative is improving a total of 87.89 km of roads in Atisbo, Ido, Iseyin, Oluyole, Oriire, Oyo West, and Saki West LGAs.

The Alako–Idiya–Batake–Olowa–Ijaiye Farm Settlement Road corridor links several agrarian communities and farm settlements within Ido LGA, forming a critical part of the local food production and supply chain.

Once completed, the road will:

Improve the timely transportation of agricultural produce from rural communities to urban markets,
Reduce produce spoilage and post-harvest losses caused by poor road access, and
Boost rural enterprise and investment, particularly in farming settlements like Ijaiye.

With construction works now underway, including drainage and culvert development in some sections, the project will bring lasting improvements to mobility, agribusiness growth, and access to essential services for residents and farmers across the Ido Local Government.

This intervention is part of the State’s larger infrastructure and rural development strategy, which focuses on equitable access, food security, and sustained economic inclusion.

By enhancing the quality of rural roads, RAAMP is positioning Oyo State’s agricultural zones for improved market access and long-term productivity.

It also aligns with the government’s wider rural infrastructure push.

Like the roads currently under construction in Oriire and Atisbo/Saki West, this road serves as a major agricultural route, connecting multiple farm settlements to larger markets within and beyond Ido LGA.

Residents and farmers in Ido can look forward to improved access to markets, inputs, and services, all key components for unlocking the full potential of the region’s agribusiness ecosystem.

Gov. Makinde Turning Oyo State into a 24-hour Economy, says Hoteliers Association President, Ogundele.

July 1, 2025.

The President of the Hoteliers Association of Oyo State, Mr. Ayodele Ogundele, has praised Governor ‘Seyi Makinde for his transformative policies that are positioning Oyo State as a 24-hour economy.

In an interview with The People’s Verdict, Ogundele, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Davies Hotel, Ibadan, highlighted the significant strides made under Makinde’s administration to foster economic growth and enhance the state’s business environment.

Ogundele commended the governor’s initiatives, particularly the Light Up Oyo Project, which has illuminated streets across the state, enabling businesses such as hotels and retail stores to operate round-the-clock in Ibadan and other areas.

“Governor Makinde’s policies have been extremely beneficial. The electrification and street lighting initiatives have created a thriving economy, allowing businesses to operate 24 hours and attracting investment to new areas,” he stated.

The Hoteliers Association President noted that infrastructure improvements, including well-constructed roads with proper drainage, have boosted economic activity and encouraged the development of new hotels across Oyo State.

“The new roads being laid are a massive blessing. They are done with perfect drainage and without much fanfare, which is unprecedented for a second-term governor,” Ogundele remarked, emphasizing the administration’s efficiency and commitment to sustainable development.

Ogundele also addressed the resolution of longstanding issues faced by hoteliers, such as multiple taxation.

He highlighted that the Makinde administration introduced a harmonized tax system, providing clarity on tax obligations and encouraging compliance.

“Before Governor Makinde, hoteliers faced challenges with various agencies imposing different taxes. Now, the harmonized tax system has made it easier for businesses to meet their responsibilities while seeing tangible benefits like improved roads and security,” he added.

The enhanced security architecture under Makinde’s leadership was also lauded, with Ogundele noting that Ibadan has experienced no major security incidents in the past four to five years.

This stability, coupled with infrastructure development, has made Oyo State a conducive environment for businesses and tourism, further solidifying its path toward a 24-hour economy.

Ogundele’s remarks align with Governor Makinde’s broader vision of expanding Oyo State’s economy through tourism, agribusiness, and infrastructure.

Recent initiatives, such as the commissioning of the Kunle Afolayan Productions’ Film Village and Resort and the promotion of festivals like the World Twins Festival at Igbo-Ora, underscore the administration’s commitment to economic diversification.

The Oyo State Government continues to collaborate with stakeholders, including the Hoteliers Association, to regulate and enhance the hospitality sector, ensuring it contributes to the state’s internally generated revenue and economic growth.

The Hoteliers Association of Oyo State represents hotel owners and operators across the state, advocating for policies that promote growth, professionalism, and sustainability in the hospitality industry.

100th PDP NEC: A United PDP now ready to present NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN 2027 Presidential Candidate to Nigerians as alternative to President Tinubu.

By Dennis Shima JP, Political Affairs Analyst in Abuja, Nigeria.

On Monday 30th June, 2025 PDP proved to the world that, she is, the most experienced political party and democratic institution fit for Nigeria's contemporary politics by holding her 100th NEC with a united front.

Top ranks of disagreements were closed and a major decision to unite all parties emerged from the 100th PDP NEC.

Leaders of our great party (PDP), declared at the end of PDP 100th NEC that, there is no victor and no vanquished amongst the PDP stakeholders from top to bottom now.

According to Chairman of PDP Reconciliation and Strategy Committee Senator Dr. Bukola Saraki, PDP won, Nigeria's Democracy won and grassroot members of PDP won as a result of the unanimous resolution at the PDP 100th NEC which pessimists thought it was not going to hold.

PDP 100th NEC scheduled 23rd July, 2025 for 101 PDP NEC to discuss PDP National Convention amongst other critical issues not limited to popularization of PDP National Convention organizing committees.

The PDP champion of *NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN Governor Seyi Makinde is conspicuously the emerging 2027 PDP presidential candidate from all indications*.

Governor Seyi Makinde became Governor of Oyo State at the age 51 and is adjuged to be the youngest amongst the past governors of Oyo state.

Governor Seyi Makinde as Champion of youths inclusiveness in governance as encapsulated in the *NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN* rights of Nigeria's youths population supported emergence of the youngest Speaker of Oyo state House of Assembly history and the youngest amongst speakers in Nigeria.

Today, the youngest Speaker supported by Governor Seyi Makinde is the Chairman or Speaker of all Speakers of State Houses of Assembly across the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

With Governor Seyi Makinde as 2027 PDP presidential candidate and President of Nigeria, Nigeria's youths population will be properly and strategically supported to participate in governance affairs of this country at all levels and tiers of government of the federation.

Therefore, it is incumbent on PDP stalwarts to consider His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde to be 2027 PDP presidential candidate and champion the *NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN* at the Federal level because the strength of every Sovereignty lies in its youths population and prioritizing the youths population begets good governance with welfare and security like what is obtainable in Oyo state today without prejudices.

Congratulations to PDP family at home and abroad!

Goodluck Nigerian Youths!

Goodluck to Nigerians across board!
