BANK WITH GOD

Banks are a gift to civilisation; no matter what one goes through, one can be rest assured that one’s possessions are intact in a well-fortified facility.

Today, God tells us to bank our faith and hopes with him as we face our deep dark nights and tribulations.

With God, we can rest easy in the knowledge that he will preserve us through the most difficult times -times that may even seem never ending.

32ND IN ORDINARY TIME ( YEAR B )

GENUINE OFFERING
Making an offering, be it in charity or in worship, is a note of gratitude to God for His love, providence and mercy. It’s quite easy to call the bigger offering the better, but today the word of God shows us that it’s much deeper than that; it’s the heart that counts and not possessions.
We can’t be charitable without relying on God; that would be self-sufficient pride.
We are to hold on to God always, relying on His grace shamelessly so as to be ever sincere and genuine in our offering.

HAVE THE RIGHT FEAR
Believe it or not, there’s a right and wrong fear. The latter being the one of self interest and the former being the one of love for another.
Being called to ‘fear’ God means being called to love God with everything in us so much so that we seek nothing that displeases him.
This is the right fear to have; a fear born from love and reverence, not from the aim of just avoiding hell.

GUIDE AGAINST IGNORANCE

Ignorance isn’t just due to the lack of knowledge, but also entails persistence on the ‘comfortable’ wrong, even when one is presented with the truth.

Today, God shows us that ignorance may come in many forms and the best way to guide against it is to stay with His word and His church.

Like Bartimaeus, we are to be unshaken when it comes to calling out to Christ in a world that seems keen to silence the Christian voice.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

MODEL FOR MISSION

We all, as children of God, are on mission here on earth. Being on mission means to live according to the dictates of the one who has sent us -Christ.
We are never to shy away from standing out in this world in order to drink from the chalice Christ has drunk from and to be baptised with the baptism Christ has been received.

In this mission, Christ who has sent us, is our model.

WEALTH IN WISDOM
Detachment and attachment are the principles of progression. Progress cannot come without letting go; to go higher to eternal life, we have to willingly let go of the lower, that is, this world’s possessions. God’s Wisdom makes us discern what to detach from and what to attach to. God makes us understand that worldly possessions aren’t to take precedence over God’s Kingdom.
We are to let God’s living word cut through us so as to be detached from our worldly possessions.

FAITH, FIDELITY & FAMILY
Commitment over convenience should be the order of the day when it comes to love in the family according to the intention of God. It’s easier to leave or abandon a situation when it’s no longer convenient, but God tells us today that marriages are never to end in divorce; what God has joined should never be broken. The family should never be broken. Don’t take flight, stay and fight to fix what’s gone wrong, all while leaning on God’s grace.

UNBIASED FAITH
The tendency to be biased as human beings is a very slippery slope. We have sentiments, yes, but we are never let our sentiments make us prejudiced when it pertains to the matters of truth and faith. Welcome righteousness in all situations speak against unrighteousness in all situations. This is the path God intends for us his children.

HOMILY FOR THE 25TH IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR B )

CHECKING OUR AMBITIONS
It would be abnormal to think that one wouldn’t want to make progress and aspire for better positions of greatness as life goes on; this is called ambition and it’s not a bad thing. However, we must have the proper reasons for wanting to be great else, having misguided ambitions, there would exist jealousy and covetousness among us. God tells us today that being great has to do with being ready to stoop to the lowest level so as to lift everyone to the highest level through acts of service. This is how we attain greatness in God’s way.

CRITERIA FOR CHRISTIANITY
As human beings, we’re no strangers to being addressed by various titles; as a matter of fact, it’s a thing of pride most times. Christianity is the title we bear as followers of Christ, but what does it mean to follow Christ? We are to be like Christ in every way - making sacrifices for one another and not shying away from suffering, in other words, taking our crosses and walking with Christ daily. These are the criteria one needs to fulfil in order to be a true follower of Christ.
