LIVING A CONSECRATED LIFE 2
Saturday, 30th July 2022
Pst. Bod D. Olukole
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service" Romans 12:1
There is a popular hymn we sing titled "Draw me nearer". A line in that hymn reads "Consecrate me now to thy service, Lord, by the power of grace divine". This tells us that any service that goes without consecration is unacceptable. One of the things that is lacking in our generation today, especially in our clime, is consecration. We are full of head knowledge but zero consecration. When you are consecrated, you don't do eye-service because your service is borne out of a burning in your heart.
Recently, I was reading about Robert Schuller, the pastor of the Crystal Cathedral, who wrote the book "Tough Times Never Last but Tough People Do". He said "I preached from the top of my shop when I started. There was no venue". I was challenged and I said to my wife, "what a life of consecration!".
Today, if any little thing shakes us, many of us start backing out. Go and read the biographies of great men like Robert Schuller and see how they started small, and you would see what it means to be consecrated to God's service. In his autobiography, Robert Schuller mentioned that what inspired him to build a glass cathedral was an experience he had when starting out. He said birds used to fly over the shop venue he was using and he got used to it. So when he was building that state of the art facility for the ministry, he built a glass cathedral so he could still see the sky. Wow! That is turning your pain to pleasure. Someone else would have used the absence of a venue as an occasion to back out but he didn't. He used the experience to build a magnificent edifice.
Prayer:

Lord help me to set myself apart in a way that is acceptable to You.
