Portharcourt, Rivers State - The Niger Delta Development Commission's Department of Dispute and Conflict Resolution (DCR) recently hosted a three-day capacity building program on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and inclusive peace for sustainable development.
The event, themed "Fostering Lasting Peace through ADR: Lessons from the Past, Building Future Opportunities to Advance the Renewed Hope Agenda," brought together stakeholders from across the Niger Delta region.
In his welcome remark, Acting Director of DCR, Barr. Ogedegbe Ayewumi Godwin, stated that the gathering aimed to harness the power of ADR as a critical instrument for sustaining peace, unlocking development, and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across the Niger Delta region and beyond.
Resource persons delivered presentations on various topics related to ADR and peacebuilding. Keynote speaker Dr. Otive Igbuzor discussed the theme, while Dr. Bridget Osakwe and Bashiru Olasupo presented on deepening dialogue and mediation and strengthening communal institutions through ADR, respectively.
The program featured interactive sessions, inter-state dance competitions, and certificate presentations to participants. Prominent leaders in attendance included Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku's representative, Hon. Bara Otobo, Engr. Udengs Eradiri, and others.
Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, President of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, emphasized the need for increased youth inclusion in peacebuilding initiatives and more funding to support such efforts in the Niger Delta region.
