Bayelsa Gov. Douye Diri to receive WAEC Vatebra Merit Awardee, describe academic performance as administration's improvement on education

The Governor of Bayelsa state, Sen. Douye Diri is set to receive Master Numa Precious Keme of Ido Comprehensive Secondary School Egbemo-Angalabiri, in the government house.

Recall, Tarakirivoice reported that Numa was nominated for WAEC Vatebra Merit Award For Best Overall Male Candidate in Public Secondary Schools In Nigeria.The WAEC/Vatebra Merit Award is an annual initiative by Vatebra Limited and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to recognize and reward outstanding academic achievement among public school students in Nigeria. The awards are presented at the annual meeting of the Nigeria National Council of the WAEC, with categories for the best overall male and female candidates and the best public secondary school in sciences. Winners receive cash prizes and are honored for their dedication and intellectual prowess.

The 63rd Award ceremony is scheduled to hold in Abia state, Nigeria, by November this year.

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Education Dr. Gentle E. Emelah receives the Bayelsa Born Scholar, Master Numa Precious Keme of Ido Comprehensive Secondary School Egbemo-Angalabiri, presented a cash gift to him and promised that when Numa returned from the National Council Meeting with his National Award from WAEC, He will be presented to the Bayelsa State Governor His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State.

The public secondary school student, identified as Numa Precious Keme of Ido Comprehensive Secondary school (ICSS), Egbemo-Angalabiri, in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa state, cleared his WAEC with an astonishing 8 A’s and 1B which earned him the nomination as the best candidate in Nigeria from a Public Secondary School for the 2024 Examinations.

In a letter obtained by Tarakirivoice, The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) nominated the Bayelsa State Student, Numa Precious Keme of Ido Comprehensive Secondary School, Egbemo-Angalabiri, for the WAEC Vatebra Merit Award For Best Overall Male Candidate in Public Secondary Schools In Nigeria.

Breaking: Former Police IG, Solomon Arase is dead

Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Ehigiator Arase has passed away at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja.

Arase, who served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police, was later appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Before becoming IGP, he headed the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the police force’s top intelligence unit.

Born on June 21, 1956, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Arase studied Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University, graduating in 1980, and joined the Nigeria Police Force on December 1, 1981. He later earned a Law degree from the University of Benin and a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos.

Throughout his distinguished career, he served in several strategic positions, including Principal Staff Officer to former IGPs, Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of intelligence. He also represented Nigeria in Namibia under a United Nations peacekeeping mission and was a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Arase retired from the Force on June 21, 2016, upon reaching the statutory retirement age. In January 2023, he was appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission by then-President Muhammadu Buhari, a position he held until June 2024.
He was widely respected for his dedication to police welfare and his reform-driven leadership. During his tenure, he introduced major initiatives such as the Intelligence Response Team, the Complaint Response Unit to address police misconduct, and the Safer Highway Patrols, which improved security for travelers across the country. Even after retiring, he continued to contribute to policing reforms, particularly in election security and neutrality.

Ijaw Traditional Musician meets Ijaw Gospel Artist set to perform live gospel song

The song "Dey By My Side" which draws from the rich tradition of Ijaw Owigiri music is to be perform by Asu Ekiye and Dr. Alfred Jking on Sunday, 7th of September 2025, in a live video shoot at the Hall of the Refined People's Assembly, located behind the Diete Koki Memorial Hospital in Opolo, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

Alfred Jking is a popular Nigerian traditional musician from the Southern part of the country, known for blending Highlife and Izon music styles. He’s recognized as a leading artist in the Izon-ebe music scene, with songs and albums available on platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube. His music often celebrates Ijaw culture and tradition.
