FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has made a striking claim about the outcome of the recent Osun State governorship election.

Speaking about the election, Wike said President Bola Tinubu could have secured victory for the APC if he had decided to deploy the full political influence of the Federal Government.

According to Wike:

«“If the President wanted to win Osun State election at all cost, I would have been there and we will win it, and there’s nothing the governor can do.”»

Wike also stated:

«“There was no Federal might used in Osun.”»

His comments suggest that, in his view, the Federal Government had the political capacity to influence the outcome but chose not to deploy its full strength.

Wike further argued that Governor Ademola Adeleke would ordinarily have been in the APC under different political circumstances.

The remarks have generated fresh debate about the Osun election and the role of federal political influence in state elections.

Activist Omoyele Sowore has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid less than 24 hours after INEC declared Adeleke the winner of the Osun governorship election.

Sowore questioned how Adeleke could quickly move to support Tinubu after the events surrounding the election.

He alleged that close to 50 people lost their lives in violence before and during the election, and questioned why those deaths had not received adequate political attention or accountability.

Sowore wrote:

«“These evil people had to sacrifice close to 50 lives in violence before and during the Osun election, all just to prove that ‘agreement is agreement.’”»

He then turned his criticism directly towards Adeleke's endorsement of Tinubu.

Sowore alleged that Adeleke's decision to support Tinubu was influenced by their shared Yoruba identity, writing that Adeleke announced his support for Tinubu because “Tinubu is a Yoruba man.”

Sowore also demanded answers over the reported deaths:

«“Who killed them? Who ordered or enabled the violence? Who is investigating their deaths? Where is the justice for their families?”»

He concluded his criticism by describing those responsible for the alleged violence as “wicked people.”

The comments have now triggered another political debate:

Arise TV journalist Rufai Oseni has weighed in on the outcome of the Osun governorship election and President Bola Tinubu’s congratulatory message to Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Oseni said:

«“It was after everything failed that President Tinubu congratulated.”»

He also praised Adeleke and the people who supported him during the election, describing the governor as a very strong and resilient politician.

According to Oseni:

«“This Adeleke is very strong. His head is a bulldozer. Adeleke's head is strong and the people loved him and they stood with him.”»

Oseni, however, warned that there are still serious challenges surrounding Nigeria’s electoral process, particularly vote buying.

He noted that some voters may collect money but still vote according to their conscience, while others may choose to support candidates they believe have the strongest chance of winning because they do not want to “waste” their votes.

He also cautioned Nigerians against becoming complacent after the Osun election, warning that voters' emotions can easily be influenced by lies and propaganda.

«“It’s not yet Owuruu, o. People's emotions are fickle and can be pumped with propaganda.”»

OSUN ELECTION: APC REVEALS ITS NEXT MOVE

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refused to consider the 2026 governorship election completely over following INEC’s declaration of Ademola Adeleke as the winner.

The party says it is currently reviewing the results across all 332 wards and consulting with its legal team before deciding on its next step.

According to the APC, it will explore the legal avenues available under the Electoral Act, including a possible challenge before the Election Petition Tribunal.

The party also stressed that, in its view, an election process does not necessarily end with INEC’s declaration, as aggrieved parties can seek redress through the tribunal and, where applicable, the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

📌 INEC declared Ademola Adeleke of Accord the winner with 511,067 votes, while APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji finished with 444,815 votes — a margin of 66,252 votes.

For now, however, APC has NOT announced that it has formally filed a petition. The party says it is still consulting its lawyers and reviewing the results.

The big question now is:

But when they entered the polling booth, they voted according to their conscience. 🗳️✊

That is an important lesson in democracy:

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the incumbent Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, the winner of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.

📊 FINAL RESULTS AS ANNOUNCED:

🥇 ADELEKE — ACCORD: 511,067 VOTES
🥈 BOLA OYEBAMIJI — APC: 444,815 VOTES
🥉 NAJEEM SALAAM — ADC: 17,180 VOTES

🏆 WINNING MARGIN:
ADELEKE DEFEATED OYEBAMIJI BY 66,252 VOTES.
