*TREAT CORPS MEMBERS AS OUR CHILDREN, SAM PEPPLE CHARGES CAMP OFFICIALS*
The Bayelsa State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Samuel Amaramiro Pepple, has charged camp officials to treat corps members with care, dignity, and understanding throughout the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course.
Pepple gave the charge during the maiden meeting of camp officials held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Boro Town, on Tuesday, 9th June 2026.
Addressing officials, the State Coordinator emphasized that corps members should be treated as their children and young adults, describing them as "our children" who deserve guidance, support, and protection while in camp.
He cautioned officials against bullying, harassment, and any form of corporal punishment, stressing that there are more appropriate and effective ways of correcting erring corps members.
The Coordinator thanked God for the safe arrival of all camp officials and urged everyone to remain committed to their responsibilities.
He further directed that proper documentation of all persons entering the camp must be strictly observed, noting that unauthorized access to the camp would not be tolerated.
Pepple also called for enhanced security measures around the camp, charging security agencies and officials to be vigilant in monitoring movements into and out of the orientation camp. He specifically tasked officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to ensure that no illicit or prohibited substances find their way into the camp environment.
He warned against conflicts among camp officials, reminding them that every official plays an important role in the success of the orientation exercise. According to him, teamwork, discipline, and synergy are essential for achieving the objectives of the Scheme.
The State Coordinator further directed that registration of corps members should commence promptly and that all prospective corps members should be attended to professionally and courteously. He gave special attention to corps members living with disabilities and those with special needs, directing that they be identified immediately upon arrival and provided with stress-free registration and every necessary assistance.
He stressed that under no circumstance should corps members with special needs be ridiculed, discriminated against, or subjected to unnecessary hardship.
Pepple also issued a stern warning against extortion in any form, declaring that no corps member should be exploited by camp officials. He maintained that any official found engaging in extortion would face appropriate disciplinary measures.
The Coordinator equally frowned at the practice of corps members "sorting" officials and warned camp officials to desist from any conduct that could compromise the integrity of the Orientation exercise. He further cautioned against undue socialization between camp officials and corps members.
In her remarks delivered by the Deputy Camp Director, Mrs. Essien Ena Omawumi, the Camp Director commended the State Coordinator for his leadership skills and urged camp officials to take morning meditation seriously while ensuring the smooth conduct of all camp activities.
She encouraged Platoon Officers, Man O' War personnel, and military officers to work closely together in their respective platoons to ensure effective coordination and discipline.
Additionally, she directed that all camp marketers be issued gate passes, while visitors should be properly profiled and documented according to the purpose of their visit.
Speaking at the meeting, the Camp Commandant, Capt. N.A. Ibrahim, warned against all forms of indiscipline and called on everyone to remain security conscious. He urged camp officials to promptly report any suspicious activities or movements within and around the camp.
Also speaking, the Residents Officer, Mr. Godfrey Nwajei, encouraged camp officials to remain dedicated to their duties and contribute their best towards the success of the Orientation programme.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by camp officials and collaborating agencies to work together in unity, discipline, and professionalism to ensure a safe, secure, and successful 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course in Bayelsa State.
