They have strong, stiff spines near the front fins can injure predators’ mouths or throats, making them hesitate or abandon an attack.
Their skin is covered with thick mucus, making them hard to grip, even if a predator catches them
This species of catfish has a special air-breathing organ, enabling it to survive in low-oxygen water or even wriggle away on land, escaping predators.
