BREAKING: INEC postpones governorship and state assembly elections to March 18

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the governorship and state assembly elections till March 18, 2023.

According to reports, the exercise which was previously scheduled to hold on March 11 was shifted due to a logistics crisis stemming from BVAS configuration, and transportation.

The decision was made on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, following a meeting of the commission’s executives.

“We should be able to get everything in order before March 18,” a source familiar with the development said.

The meeting was still underway at INEC headquarters in Abuja as of the time of filing this report.

NIGERIAN POLITICSBreaking: Hon Ja’afar Wins Court Of Appeal Judgment

The House of representatives Member in the national assembly, Hon Ja’afar Magaji representing Mubi North, Mubi South, and Maiha Federal constituency of Adamawa State has won his case at the Yola Court of appeal.

Ha’afar appealed a Federal High Court Judgment annulling as the substantive candidate of APC for the Mubi North, Mubi South and Maiha Federal constituency.

In the ruling by His Lordship, Hon Justice H A O Abiru set aside the Federal High court Judgment that annulled the primary that made Ja’afar own a ticket of the All Progressives Congress Party.

According to Justice Abiru Hon Abubakar Danmasani, Sadiq Mana, and Mahmuf Sali as plaintiffs challenged the authenticity of Ja’afar as the winner of the APC primary election held in Mubi last year.

In his ruling, Abiru said the delegates that voted for Ja’afar are confirmed delegates from the party and the Plaintiffs didn’t prove their case to that effect.

Hon Ja’afar Abubakar Magaji: Appeal Court Fix Thursday For Ruling On Adamawa HoR Ticket

The Court of Appeal sitting in Yola, Adamawa state has fixed the 2nd February 2023 for judgment in suits for All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket for Mubi North, Mubi South, and Maiha Federal Constituency

The appeals were instituted by the incumbent Member representing Mubi North, Mubi South, and, Maiha at the House of Representatives,HoR Hon. Ja’afar Magaji and Jibrilla Mohammed Jandani(Ustaz) respectively.

Hon. Ja’afar Abubakar Magaji battling to reclaim his ticket which was voided by the Federal High Court presided by Hon. Justice A. M. Anka, on the 25th November 2022

In his suit, the Federal Legislator asked the appeal court to allow his appeal and set aside the judgment of the High Court which invalidated his ticket.

Likewise, he sought for an upholding the declaration that he is the winner of the APC primary election conducted on 27th May, 2022.

On his part, Jibrilla Jandani, whose suit caused Hon. Ja’afar ticket at the trial court also appealed the judgment contesting the lower refusing to order for fresh primary.

He asked the appeal court to allow his appeal, set aside and part of the judgment lower court refused to order for fresh primary election.

He prayed the court to order for fresh primary election so that APC can field a candidate in the February election.

According Jandani, the trial court’s Judge erred in law leading to a miscarriage of justice when he granted reliefs by either party before it by deciding that APC shall not field any candidate in the 2023 general elections.

He argued that none of the parties in the matter sought an order barring APC from fielding a candidate in the 2023 general elections as ordered by the Judge for the constituency.

NIGERIAN POLITICSI Will Pay Back Your Anti-Party With Anti-Party Too, Wike Tells PDP Leaders

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has promised to “hit back” at the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over what he described as anti-party activities.

Wike, who spoke at the PDP Etche Local Government Area (LGA) campaign rally in Rivers State on Monday, accused the National Working Committee of the party of colluding with the opposition in the state.

The disclosure comes amid a months-long feud between the G5 or Integrity Group – made up of Wike and four other PDP governors (Benue, Oyo, Abia, and Enugu) – and the PDP leadership for its alleged disregard for equity, fairness and justice.

Since the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the PDP presidential candidate in May 2022, the governors have insisted that the North cannot produce both the standard bearer and national chairman, according to the party constitution.

Speaking in a mix of English and Pidgin, Wike told party supporters in Etche LGA that trouble had come

“Those of them in Abuja that are talking about anti-party [activities], we have caught them now. They are the ones doing their anti-party [activities],” he said.

“I have caught them now and I told them anti-party begets anti-party. You know we carried these small parties to court for failing to do what the law says – APC, SDP.

“The people in Abuja that say they are national have gone to collude with them to write our lawyer a letter that they should take their hands off, in order to kill the cases we filed.”

Wike added that despite having told the state chapter’s counsel to “remove their hands,” he has no problem with the case dying.

But the governor did not mince words about his plans to fight back.

“I will hit them back by tomorrow,” Wike said. “There is nobody that touches us that will not get a wound on his body. Anybody that says he will touch us in Rivers State, I will give him many wounds on his body – and we have started it.

“We are voting for our people here. Now [that] you have told us you are doing anti-party [activities], we’ll show you what anti-party [activity] is. We have caught them red-handed. They are the ones that started anti-party [activities].

“We didn’t do anti-party [activities]. Anyway, it has been in their blood. Now, they have shown their hands. You people should just watch from tomorrow what will happen to them.”

The former Minister of State for Education told the crowd not to cry for his political enemies, saying they are not “our people.”

“Don’t cry when armed robbers catch them because we will teach armed robbers a lesson. We will deal with armed robbers so that they will know it’s not good to steal other people’s things. That’s how we will deal with them tomorrow,” he said.

The governor also urged the party’s supporters to await the decision of Rivers PDP.

“So, Chief Emma Anyanwu, Allwell Onyesoh, Kelechi, [and the] party chairman, all of them will start work to tell you what we have agreed. Anything they say is our agreement, that is what we agreed. Heaven will not fall.

“These few days that remain, it’s a battle to the finish. If you say we won’t be there, you won’t be there either,” he said.
