Rector Assures Adamawa Polytechnic Degree Graduates of Imminent NYSC Mobilisation

The Acting Rector of Adamawa State Polytechnic, Dr. Harrison Edan Mbasumai, has assured graduates of the institution's degree programme, affiliated with the University of Maiduguri, that they will soon be mobilised for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

Dr. Mbasumai gave the assurance while speaking in an interview with reporters from Adamawa Television Corporation (ATV) in his office, where he addressed concerns over the prolonged delay in the release of results for graduates of the affiliated degree programme.

The Acting Rector explained that the delay, which has prevented many graduates from participating in the NYSC scheme, predates his appointment as the head of the institution.

He noted that although the challenge was inherited, his administration has taken decisive steps to resolve the issue. According to him, the Polytechnic has already released โ‚ฆ3 million to the University of Maiduguri to commence the process of releasing the outstanding results.

Dr. Mbasumai disclosed that the University has made an additional request of โ‚ฆ15 million to complete the process. He said the Polytechnic Management is exploring various options, including seeking the support of the Adamawa State Government, to raise the required funds and ensure that the graduates are mobilised for the NYSC programme without further delay.

The Acting Rector reaffirmed the institution's commitment to safeguarding the future of its students, stressing that the management understands the importance of timely mobilisation for national service.

"As parents, we are committed to taking every necessary action to secure the future of our children," he said, while appealing to parents and the affected graduates to remain patient and confident in the efforts being made to achieve a lasting solution.

He expressed optimism that the ongoing engagements with the University of Maiduguri and other relevant stakeholders would soon yield positive results, bringing relief to the affected graduates who have waited for years to begin their mandatory national service.

Gov. Fintiri Approves Conversion of Specialist Hospital Yola to ADSU Teaching Hospital

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved the conversion of the Specialist Hospital Yola into the Adamawa State University Teaching Hospital.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved the conversion of the Specialist Hospital Yola into the Adamawa State University Teaching Hospital.

The Secretary to the State Government, Awwal Tukur, disclosed this while inaugurating members of the conversion committee at Government House, Yola.

Barrister Tukur explained that the management of Adamawa State University had recently requested the governorโ€™s approval for the conversion to provide a training facility for medical students within the state, rather than sending them outside Adamawa for clinical training.

According to him, Governor Fintiri considered the request and approved the conversion, noting that the development would improve healthcare delivery and strengthen medical education in the state.

Speaking during the inauguration, the Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University, Augustine Clement, stated that the committee was inaugurated alongside the Commissioner for Health and Human Services to finalize the modalities for the smooth operation of the teaching hospital.

Professor Clement described the approval as a clear demonstration of Governor Fintiriโ€™s commitment to improving healthcare services and educational standards in Adamawa State.

He added that the university would soon commence several academic activities for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of Specialist Hospital Yola, Dauda Wadinga, expressed the hospitalโ€™s readiness and commitment to commence the programme and commended the governor for approving the conversion.

On his part, the Acting Provost of the Adamawa State College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Michael Misauno, described Governor Fintiri as a visionary leader and assured that the institution would work diligently toward achieving the objectives of the project.
