The defendants include Aliyu Bala, Yusuf Sale and Abdullahi Abubakar of different addresses in Yola North LGA, were arrested, arraigned and remanded by the Chief Magistrate Court II presided by A. M. Adamu, on Tuesday.
During their last operation which led to their arrest, the trio and 12 others now at large, allegedly invaded Waya Ventures Villa and Salima Students Compound Sabon Gari Futy with offensive weapons and subjected their victims into extreme fear and carted away N2.5million properties.
Aliyu and 2 other defendants who have since pleaded guilty to the offences on their arraignment, robbed students of 5 laptops 12 smart phones and sold same to Sani Sale, Jamilu Sani and Bashir Ibrahim.
The victims numbering 11 had jointly reported to the police on the 2nd April, 2025, that the defendants and several others currently at large conspired and stormed their compounds on the same date and robbed them of their valuables.
The defendants were remanded for "criminal conspiracy, robbery and dishonest receiving property stolen in the commission of brigandage or robbery" contrary to sections 60, 287, 309 of the penal code law 2018.
The 1st defendant, Aliyu Bala, had engaged in the robbery barely 3 weeks after serving his 2 and half years prison term for the offence of "extortion".
Arraigning the defendants on behalf of the Police Command, the Prosecutor, Sgt Ahmed Abubakar, urged the court to read the content of the First Information Report in the language they will understand in order to enter their plea.
After the plea of the defendants, the Prosecutor prayed the court to adjourn the matter to enable police complete investigation and transmit case diary to DPP for vetting considering the fact that the offence is capital in nature.
Ruling, Magistrate Adamu granted the application and ordered police to complete investigation into the matter and also ordered the remand of the defendants until 27th May, 2025.
