What Happened To Zule Zoo?
Zule Zoo were one of the biggest musical groups in the early 2000s. The group was formed in the late 1990s by Michael Aboh and Al-Hassan Ibrahim who were both from Benue State.
They rose to the limelight after the success of their smash hit, ‘Kerewa’, which was banned by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, for obscene content.
The enchanting duo held the whole country spellbound and dominated the airwaves with their spectacular dance steps and swaying moves.
However, the duo split up in 2008, after which Aboh released a solo album titled “E dey pain me” and remained very quiet musically.
It was rumoured in the mid 2010's that the multi-talented singers were staging a comeback to music, following their plans to remix their hit song, “Kerewa” but this never happened.
In 2022, Aboh died after slumping in the bathroom while having his bath.
Zule Zoo is remembered as one of the pioneers of the Takuraku beat, which projected Nigerian culture through creativity in lyrical composition and innovative use of African percussion instruments.
They bestride the Nigerian music scene like a colossus and suddenly disappeared into thin air when the ovation was loudest.
Some of their songs include:
☞︎ Kerewa
☞︎ Song for Mama
☞︎ Jam jam
☞︎ Bad belle
☞︎ Odugboma
☞︎ I know my level
☞︎ Agenele
☞︎ Chin Kpan
☞︎ Angelina
☞︎ Ufedor
☞︎ I Don Give A Damn
☞︎ Sweet 16
