Kebbi to Set Up Committee on Primary School Teachers’ Salary Review

Press Release

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has assured primary school teachers that he will inaugurate a committee to review their salary structure across the state.

The governor gave the assurance during an interactive session with primary school teachers, Education Secretaries, Local Government Chairmen, and other stakeholders held at the Presidential Lodge, Birnin Kebbi.

He said the committee would be given 30 days to submit its report and assured the teachers that their concerns would be addressed and the implementation of the minimum wage fully considered.

Governor Idris described teaching as his constituency, stressing that he would not allow anyone to shortchange teachers.

“This government belongs to you because I am still one of you as a teacher. It is your votes and support that brought me to this position.

“I advise you not to allow anyone to use you or distract you from the progress and achievements recorded so far,” he said.

The governor also called on each Local Government Chairman to explain the status of primary school teachers’ salaries in their respective areas and indicate whether any salary increments had been implemented.

All the chairmen confirmed that salary increases had been introduced but noted that implementation was yet to be fully completed.

Governor Idris urged teachers to remain committed to their duties to ensure that children receive quality education.

“I will also provide primary school teachers with access to various loan schemes, including car loans, motorcycle loans, and housing loans, to enhance their welfare and give them a greater sense of belonging,” he added.

The governor pledged not to disappoint the teachers and assured them of his continued commitment to improving their welfare and putting smiles on their faces.

DSS ARRESTS FIVE ARMS COURIERS, TWO SUSPECTS LINKED TO PAPIRI KIDNAP

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested five suspected arms couriers, including two foreign nationals, linked to the November 2025 mass abduction at St. Mary's Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State.

A statement by the service says the suspects supplied weapons to the gunmen who kidnapped nearly 300 students and staff during the attack.
The operation began with the interception of three suspects along the Zaria-Kaduna Highway as they allegedly moved to receive a weapons consignment.

A follow-up raid led to the arrest of international arms courier Goni Ibrahim from the Diffa Region of Niger Republic and his accomplice, Tukur Sani. Operatives recovered 15 AK-103 rifles, 15 magazines, and 1,434 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed in their vehicle.
Days later, another suspected syndicate member, Alhaji Adamu, also known as Gado Banufe, was apprehended in Yauri, Kebbi State.

Investigations reveal that the suspects were key suppliers of arms to the gunmen behind the Papiri school attack, one of Nigeria's most notorious mass kidnappings in recent years.
The November 21, 2025 raid saw armed men storm the Catholic boarding school and abduct hundreds of students and teachers. While some escaped during the attack, more than 250 victims were taken into the Kainji Lake Reserve forest.
