President Mahama Names Interim Defence and Environment Ministers After Fatal Helicopter Incident

August 7, 2025- In a swift response to a national tragedy, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed two acting ministers to fill critical cabinet positions left vacant following the fatal helicopter crash that claimed the lives of the substantive Ministers for Defence and Environment, Science and Technology.
According to a statement issued today by the Presidency and signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President has asked Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the current Minister for Finance, to assume additional responsibility as Acting Minister for Defence.
Similarly, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has been appointed to act as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, effective immediately.
The tragic accident, which occurred on August 6, involved the late ministers who were en route to an official event in Obuasi. Details of the crash remain limited at this time, but the loss has sent shockwaves through the country, prompting immediate action from the Presidency to maintain continuity in government operations.
This temporary reshuffle places significant additional responsibilities on both acting ministers at a time when the nation is in mourning and facing critical policy challenges.
More updates will follow as investigations into the crash continue and funeral arrangements are announced.

Black Wednesday for Ghana Military Helicopter Crash Claims Lives of Top Government Officials

Ghana is in deep sorrow after a tragic military helicopter crash that took the lives of eight people, including high-ranking government officials and military personnel. This heartbreaking event occurred on Wednesday, August 6, and has been labeled “Black Wednesday” across the nation. The Ghana Air Force Z‑9 helicopter was on an official mission from Accra to the Ashanti Region when it reportedly lost contact with air traffic control and went down in a wooded area near Adansi Brofoyedu in the Adansi Akrofoum District. Initial reports from the Ghana Armed Forces indicate that all three crew members and five passengers aboard did not survive. The helicopter was tasked with transporting important government officials to a scheduled event in Obuasi.

Nzematoday TV will keep you updated as the investigation progresses. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims and the entire nation during this difficult time.
