Records and coffee. I am often looking for a list like this before visiting another city, so I figured I would make one for Amsterdam!

It’s simple:
you have limited time
you’re in a city that you don’t know that well
you’re interested to look in some decent record shops
you want to have a good coffee here or there while in town.

Looks like we’ve (nearly) made it half way through 2026. What’s been most memorable this year aside from the Artemis II lunar flyby mission? Music and other good things only, please :)

Here are my mid-year music picks for 2026 so far. No bests or rankings here, just a few albums, eps or songs that I’ve enjoyed this year, indie and under the radar for the most part. And because music doesn’t expire and I’ve been going through some old stuff lately, I’ve added a few picks from the archive.

New music out today from brightmoon, the Los Angeles duo comprised of Becca and Billy Mohler. They describe the project's sound as a "melange of shoegaze, indie rock, and Brit-pop". The band's name is inspired by She-Ra (yes, the Princess of Power).

You'll hear streaks of Lush and Throwing Muses, as well as the influence of 90s indie rock in Becca and Billy Mohler's brightmoon.

If a song can tip-toe through the dark, “Floatland ft. Lake Geneva (ALCATUNE mix)” is it.

A collaboration of ALCATUNE and Marisa da Anunciação, “Floatland” seems to navigate liminal states, from unease to comfort, from crushing heartache to utter relief. Both guitar and vocals lead the way, an interplay that guides while also evaporating into space above you.

ALCATUNE, based in Lisbon, Portugal is a band for fans of heavy shoegaze. “Floatland” is the fourth single from their forthcoming album Re-entry Guidance For A Crash.

Although lead man David Lopes refers to it as one of the more “restrained and spacious moments” on the new album, I think the track is characteristic of what he often says about their aesthetic: “AMBIENT BUT LOUD”.

New Q+A with Adrian Leung about his new album Olympia-5 under his project named Drexler.

Olympia-5 is a tender collection of songs by that grew out of improvised piano recordings sent to a parent during a period of illness. The album conveys emotions related to family, memory and the desire to express care and comfort from a distance. The recordings are described by the artist as invitations to alternative modes of connectivity, free of words – a sort of counter to exchanges dominated by medical updates during his father’s time in hospital.
