Jennifer Lawrence Leads the Hollywood Charge Against Donald Trump

The Oscar-winning actress said a Trump presidency would mean “the end of the world.” For months Hollywood held its collective tongue, but now they’re going right at The Donald.

Shortly after Donald Trump threw his stupid white hat into the presidential race, courtesy, as it were, of a xenophobic rallying cry branding undocumented Mexican immigrants “rapists” who sling rock to the kids of 7th Heaven, he took his cotton candy mane to Hollywood. There, The Donald was feted by a shadowy group of Tinseltown conservatives dubbed the Friends of Abe, all of which was documented in a reach-around of a piece—presumably traded for exclusive party access—with The Hollywood Reporter.

“Hollywood isn’t abandoning me. They’ve been really good,” boasted Trump, swelling with the finest Trump Steaks® and braggadocio. “I think the liberals in Hollywood support me behind my back.”

And for a while, it sure seemed that way. The big-name Hollywood liberals, who’ve never met a Republican candidate they didn’t hate with the fire of a thousand Drogons, remained tight-lipped when it came to Trump—and a few even gave him lip service. Bryan Cranston called him “refreshing.” “You can’t help but get a kick out of him,” said Owen Wilson. Even Robert Redford, an avid environmentalist, LGBT ally, and Obama supporter, told Larry King, “I’m glad [Trump’s] in there because him being the way he is, and saying what he says the way he says it, I think he shakes things up and I think that’s very needed.” The Sundance Kid only backed off the comments after Trump started bragging about them on Twitter.

IOS/ANDROID Minecraft: Story Mode is Getting a Hollywood Premiere

Telltale Games has got a pretty busy October in store, and it all kicks off with the world premiere of their latest title, Minecraft: Story Mode on Oct. 12. The game itself launches a day later on Oct. 13, but before the public gets to play Telltale and Mojang are hosting a special event together in Hollywood. The pair of developers are inviting fans out to the ArcLight Cinerama Dome that evening to take part in the “World’s Largest Let’s Play”.

Much like their Crowd Play event of Tales from the Borderlands Episode 4 at PAX Prime, the crowd will shout out which decisions they want made as the entire first episode, ‘The Order of the Stone’, is played through on the big screen in front of them. Those interested in attending should flick an e-mail to minecraftpremiere[at]telltalegames[dot]com. The tickets are free, but on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you wait too long you may miss out.

Speaking of ‘The Order of the Stone’, Telltale has also released a new trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode’s inaugural episode, which gives a closer look at the actual heroes of the world – not the main protagonists of the game like Jesse and his/her friends. The trailer, much like the full game, is narrated by veteran voice actor Billy West.

In Minecraft: Story Mode, playing as either a male or female hero named 'Jesse,' you’ll embark on a perilous adventure across the Overworld, through the Neth...

'The Martian' Is One Of The Year's Best Movies

Matt Damon and Ridley Scott find a space epic worthy of their talents.

Remember that perplexing scene in "Interstellar" when Matt Damon pops up and tries to kill Matthew McConaughey so he can return to Earth? The one that, as the Internet gladly pointed out last year, was rife with plot holes and silly space fisticuffs? I'd like to think that Damon saw his bit in the Christopher Nolan film, rolled his eyes and said, "The moviegoing world deserves better. Let's do better."

Enter "The Martian." It started as a popular debut novel by Andy Weir, but the movie could have easily gone south: Sci-fi maestro Ridley Scott ("Alien," "Blade Runner") hasn't made a great film since 2007's "American Gangster," and this lofty yarn was greenlit under the shadow of the technologically groundbreaking "Gravity" and Nolan's aforementioned space-time epic. But the Damon comeuppance that I've concocted in my imagination is quite applicable indeed, because "The Martian" is phenomenal.

Having premiered at the ongoing Toronto Film Festival ahead of its Oct. 2 release, "The Martian" is a populist sci-fi adventure that clocks in at more than two hours, yet flies by. It's like the film operates at zero gravity -- it's nerdy if you want it to be, but there is nothing fussy or ornate to weigh it down. As a survival story about Mark Watney (Damon), an astronaut stranded on Mars after his crew flees a windstorm, it is a witty character piece brimming with humor. As an interplanetary adventure about the NASA team coordinating Mark's rescue and the botany and engineering skills he administers to stay alive, it is a thrill ride about a resourceful guy who "sciences the s**t out of" a terrifying predicament. But scientific minutiae are not the movie's MO, however technical the jargon is at times. The story is crystal clear (bye, "Interstellar"), the characters are three-dimensional beings without a hammy metaphor to work toward (sorry, "Gravity"), and the aesthetics are so understatedly beautiful that you might forget to marvel (see ya, Marvel).

And the supporting cast! Oh, that dynamite supporting cast. Mark's crew comprises Jessica Chastain, who plays the mission's sturdy commander, as well as Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan and Aksel Hennie. Back in Houston, where there is most definitely a problem that extends to a national PR crisis, we find Jeff Daniels as the NASA director, Chiwetel Ejiofor as a scientific strategist and Donald Glover as an 11th-hour savior. Not to mention Kristen Wiig (though the movie doesn't quite know what to do with her character), Sean Bean and Mackenzie Davis, who carries a surprising amount of the earthbound humor. That's an expansive list of actors, and Drew Goddard's script manages to give each his or her proper due. We don't know much about Mark's and the others' lives beyond Mars and/or NASA, and that's perfectly fine because we understand what makes them tick within the parameters of their plight. That's a true accomplishment.

13 Photos Of Julia Gillard Having The Absolute Time Of Her Life

Standing on the outside looking in, as Malcolm and Tony kick each other’s shins.

Today, Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced he will be challenging Prime Minister Abbott for the Liberal Party leadership.

This, of course, probably came as a thrill to former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who spent much of her own time in office fending off Abbott as opposition leader and leadership challenges from her own side.

The $99 Apple Pencil only works with the iPad Pro and nothing else

Apple introduced a giant 12.9-inch iPad Pro on Wednesday and along with it the Apple Pencil, the company's reinvention of the stylus.

Not only is it $99 (the Surface Pro 3's Digital Pen is half as much at $50), but it only works with the iPad Pro, Mashable has confirmed.

Despite the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus having a pressure-sensitive display layer to enable 3D Touch, the pricey stylus won't work with them or any iOS device that isn't the iPad Pro.

For starters, the Apple Pencil needs to be paired with the iPad Pro via Bluetooth. Mashable Senior Tech Correspondent Christina Warren, who is reporting from the event, says the tip of the Apple Pencil is plastic and houses the sensors. It's not capacitive, so it won't work as a regular stylus on other iOS devices.

That's too bad. On the bright side, third-party companies that make capacitive styluses live another day. Artists and creatives looking for a pressure-sensitive stylus that will work with smaller iPads and iPhones should consider FiftyThree's own $50 Pencil stylus for the Paper sketchpad app. It's not as elegant as the Apple Pencil, but it's capacitive, has an "eraser" tip on the other end, pairs with a simple press of the tip to the screen, and a has full-size USB port for recharging.

The Apple Pencil charges via Lightning port. FiftyThree's Pencil also comes in two finishes — walnut wood and aluminum — whereas Apple's Pencil only comes in plastic.
