World's oldest woman, 116, eats bacon daily

Not many people will say that eating bacon every day is the key to a long life, but the world’s oldest woman swears by it.

Susannah Mushatt Jones, 116, keeps a steady diet of bacon, eggs and grits for breakfast. A sign in her kitchen reads: “Bacon makes everything better.”

Named the world’s oldest woman by Guinness World Records in July, Jones credits her longevity to "lots of sleep," Guinness said. But her family members say she has lived a long life due to her love of family and generosity to others.

Jones was born in a small farm town near Montgomery, Ala., on July 6, 1899. She was one of 11 siblings and attended a special school for young black girls. When she graduated from high school in 1922, Jones worked full time helping family members pick crops. She left after a year to begin working as a nanny, heading north to New Jersey and eventually making her way to New York.

"She adored kids," Jones' niece, Lois Judge, told the Daily Record of her aunt though Jones never had children of her own and was married for only a few years.

Baseball selfie girls use Internet infamy for good

The sorority sisters who became famous for taking selfies at a baseball game aren't as self-obsessed as you may think.

A clip of a group of women enjoying two of America's pastimes Wednesday evening — selfies and baseball — went viral earlier this week. Announcers Steve Berthiaume and Bob Brenly had a great time criticizing the women for snapping selfies with hot dogs and churros, instead of watching the Diamondbacks play the Rockies.

And if you haven't check out the original video yet, here it is, below.

A group of sorority sisters went to a baseball game only to be selfie shamed by the game's male announcers. Talk about a big no-no. We understand baseball is...

Mass ascension to kick off international balloon fiesta

Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to crowd the launch field for the first mass ascension of the 44th annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
The nine-day event kicks off Saturday at dawn. More than 500 balloons representing dozens of states and nearly 20 different countries are registered this year.
Organizers say it's one of the most photographed events in the world.
Shelby Burby of Michigan traveled to the fiesta with family members for her father's 80th birthday and they were planning to lift off early Saturday. She described seeing the balloons lift off at sunrise as gorgeous.
A combination of factors makes Albuquerque the perfect place for fiesta: typically clear skies; cool mornings; and the wind patterns at various elevations that help keep the balloons aloft over the city.
