What a sparkly and inspiring weekend we had ! ✨✨
As part of the .nl team I had the pleasure to organize the Crossborder Film Conference and Euregion Film Forum and thus meet all our lovely guests, listen to their fascinating panels, watch the amazing films within our screening selections and learn a lot during the many workshops across the four residencies we hosted in Maastricht! 💫
A huge thanks to all who participated in our activities, to my colleagues at CineSud and to our partners , Creative Europe Desk Luxembourg, Creative Europe Desk North Rhine-Westphalia, and for the successful edition of 2024! 🙏🙏

Trust the process. Embrace the chaos.

I've been using coloured post it to work on my narrative skeleton. It's perfectly tidy here eventhough it doesnt look it. Yes it is. Shut up.

Note how I debrief out loud wether I have a writer's room buddy or not, as showcased by the open mouth and the southern European hand gestures.

Also I have my own personal paparazzo to catch spontaneous slice of life and create Instagram content, sue me!

A couple of weeks ago we had an amazing time at !

What an honour to be part of such a qualitative screening block alongside so many great shorts.

A huge thanks to the organization team, to our friendly hosts who had very inspiring questions during the Q&A, to the filmmakers who were very approachable and whose work were amazing and of course to our lovely audience.

First time getting my name on a seat also which felt very official ✨

So very proud to announce De Wissel has been selected to as part of the Nederland Nieuw Peil category! ✨✨

What an honour ! 🤩
Also what noble and interesting choice to have a angler fish as a mascotte: truly an organisation of fine taste 😏

Looking forward to be there and discover the many other films in their selection (personally super excited to see the landmower man on the big screen!)

Might be worth noting that it allowed me to redecorate my house as I get to keep most of the wonderful props used during the shoot. No, this is not why we make films, but it certainly is a perk! 🤗

Incredible, Inspiring, Intense 🏵️🏵️🏵️

The Netherlands Film Festival this year was incredible ✨

The CineSud delegation had a ton of fun. I'm lucky to be surrounded by awesome colleagues who sublimate these experiences.

We met some friends and made some new: either way a strong display of talent in all departments of our beautiful craft. 🎥🎬🎞️

Big shout out to the organisation team for their humongous work and for hosting all these amazing panels, keynotes, networking drinks and of course screenings !! Thanks for having me, thanks for allowing my work to première during your prestigious festival! ❤️

What a week ✨✨

Met a lot of lovely people, watched a few films and caught a bit of Sun (still as pale as a ghost but slightly less translucent now)

I am rarely homesick, but I must admit that the return to the Netherlands was a bit difficult.

Thanks to all the wonderful participants, you were awesome, and I hope this visit will bring you lots of great things to come. May all the seeds you planted, sprout and grow in the sun 🌱🌞

Guess where I am this week!? 🔥🔥

6 years ago if you had told me I was going to be living in the Netherlands I would have been very surprised (and sceptical).
If you had told me I was going to work in films I would have laughed.
If you had told I was going to attend the Cannes Film Festival I would have asked you, with care and love, to please stop drinking.

But here I am !!

Deer caught in headlights while eating lasagna

"Les Yeux plus gros que le Ventre" (it's a dang long title so I call it "Les Yeux" most of the time) was my first own production as a writer, director and producer. It was rich in emotions and meant so much for me for several reasons:

It taught me a lot about what I like doing and what I don't like doing on set. What are my strong points and my weak points. How to handle stress and deal with it. How to make a planning before throwing said planning out the window because chaos will happen no matter how well you oiled your machine.

On a personal level, the film was revolving around a topic very close to my heart. I don't know if I can say I'm cured from my ED (can you even ever get rid of those things?) but I know that it helped me understand and process it tremendously. Talk about cathartic work!

Most of all: as the first project successfully carried through, it gave me the courage to write and make more. At the time, making it seemed very scary, but in the end it all worked out. Not to say I'm not scared about the next one, in fact I'm terrified! But having made one definitely comforted me in the idea I could do it.

I had sworn that after this heavy drama I'd make something a bit lighter and even funny: well, next one is a drama too. But it is definitely a more positive one! More on that very soon !!

Almost two years since my own first set 🎬🎥

Good vibes and good people who were there for me even if it was literally 40°c on set 🌡️
Shooting in an oven would have been cooler at this point- which made me think: summer shoot yes, but only in ventilated places ! 

Remembering the experience fondly and excited to do it again soon!

Waaah time flies

I have not been loafing around 🍞 I swear ! -(at least not too much...)

Here is one of my latest work in progress: I've been working together with wickedly talented on this graphic novel project. A first time for her and for me! So, exciting, new and challenging (the good kind).

During the first wave of the pandemic I wrote chrysalis 🐛
The story is about fear of contamination. It was created while I was myself in lockdown and inclined to germaphobia 🤧

Iris took on the challenge to illustrate it and thus this collaboration started
Although it is very different from films, I must say I am really enjoying working with illustrations 🎨
The teamwork aspect is still very present and so is the creativity!

Work still in progress but feeling daring and therefore here is a sneek pic !
