RAVE DNA #02 — NEVER FORGET THE SMALL DANCEFLOORS
The rave scene has changed a lot in 30+ years.
Back then, you didn't need a huge festival, massive production or thousands of people to create something special.
Some of my best memories came from small parties, dark rooms, low ceilings and a dancefloor full of people who were there for one reason: the music.
Today the scene feels different.
The big events have become bigger than ever. Incredible stages, huge productions and thousands of visitors.
And I love those events too.
But at the same time, many of the smaller parties struggle to fill their dancefloors the way they once did.
And I think that's a shame.
Because those small parties are often where the real connections happen.
Where the DJ isn't somewhere far away on a giant stage.
Where you can see every face on the dancefloor.
Where twenty people completely losing themselves in the music can sometimes feel more special than playing for thousands.
For me, the size of the crowd has never determined the importance of the night.
50 people who came to dance deserve exactly the same energy as 5,000.
So while I'll always dream about the big stages, I'll never stop supporting the small ones.
I'll play the intimate club.
The local underground night.
The promoter who's building something from scratch.
The party where everyone knows everyone by the end of the night.
Because today's small party could become tomorrow's big one.
But more importantly...
Rave culture was never supposed to be about how big the stage was.
It was about the people in front of it.
And that's a piece of my Rave DNA I never want to lose.
Support your local scene. Support the small parties. Keep the dancefloor alive.
