️✅ S️ymptom tracking made easy - That was the thought that sparked the creation of The Long Covid Symptom Diary.

Many treatments for Long Covid require patients to keep track of their symptoms over time to get a sense of how effective a treatment is. The same goes for research. Many research studies over the years have tried to track symptoms of Long Covid, whether it was to collect data on prevalence, symptom burden, or the effectiveness of treatments or medications that were being trialed.

When talking to the patient community, it became clear that this symptom tracking left much to be desired. Oftentimes, the range of symptoms was too narrow, thereby giving a distorted view of the overall symptom burden. There also weren't many options to record the fluctuations in symptoms that patients were experiencing over the course of a day, which can vary dramatically.

We also quickly learned that many research teams simply provided patients with an empty sheet, telling them to jot down what symptoms they were having, which was time-consuming and a real challenge, given the cognitive- and memory recall difficulties many patients struggle with.

We wanted to turn the way we track symptoms on its head. Instead of an empty sheet, we wanted to create an easy-to-navigate, tactile, and comprehensive way to track symptoms.

And so we created the checkbox system ✅️

This checkbox system includes 42 of the most common symptoms of Long Covid. For each symptom, there is a severity scale and space to jot down any notes as well as the time of occurrence.

For every day of symptom tracking, we also included:
- Empty spaces for any additional symptoms
- Plenty of room for note-taking ✍️
- Fields to record data from the most frequently used home-monitoring devices 🩺
- A range of options to rate the symptom burden of the day on a scale from 0 to 10

We sincerely hope that this format for symptom tracking makes it easier for patients to get insight into their illness and its fluctuations over time.

Als patiëntenvereniging zetten wij ons dagelijks in voor betere zorg/onderzoek, erkenning en ondersteuning van mensen met long covid. Het Long Covid Symptoomdagboek sluit naadloos aan bij die missie. Dit boek is geen commercieel product met winstoogmerk, maar een praktisch hulpmiddel om meer grip te krijgen op klachten en de communicatie met zorgverleners te verbeteren.
