Ornithogalum nutans is een sinds lang geïntroduceerde soort in Nederland, vooral in oude stinsenmilieus. Recent lijkt de soort zich sterk uit te breiden in andere milieus. In het eerste nummer van de nieuwe jaargang van Gorteria - DBA vragen Rense Haveman, Iris de Ronde en Leni Duistermaat zich af of deze planten inderdaad O. nutans betreffen, of wellicht O. boucheanum of hun beider hybride zijn.

Ornithogalum nutans is a long-known introduction in the Netherlands, known mainly from parks and gardens around old estates ("stinsen"). More recently, the species seems to spread also in other environments. In the first issue of the new volume of Gorteria - DBA, Rense Haveman, Iris de Ronde and Leni Duistermaat raise the question whether the plants at these recent locations are in fact O. nutans, or probably O. boucheanum or their hybrid.

In de laatste aflevering van Gorteria 46 gaan Kortselius & Kruijer in op de eerste vondst van Kruikmos, Splachnum ampullaceum, in Nederland. Deze vondst werd gedaan door de gebroeders Buse tussen Beekbergen en Loenen, op de Veluwe. Het artikel gaat in op de mogelijke oorzaken van de achteruitgang van deze zeldzame soort in Nederland en er wordt bovendien aandacht besteed aan de 19de eeuwse verzamelaars van dit mos. Van Buse merkte de Duitse havikskruidenspecialist Zahn (Karlsruhe) in 1930 op: "...über den wir näheres nicht ermittelten." Daar wordt nu dus iets aan gedaan...

We lopen een beetje achter met het highlighten van de nummers van Gorteria, maar dit weekend zal ik een aantal artikelen onder de aandacht brengen.

In het voorlaatste nummer van jaargang 45 beschrijven Rense Haveman en Iris de Ronde (Li Mari) de zoektocht naar de identiteit van Hieracium murorum subsp. henrardii. Dit taxon werd door Zahn beschreven in 1926, en daarna werd het stil. Toch blijkt het nog steeds in de Achterhoek voor te komen, en ook op de Veluwe, namelijk in enkele kasteel- en landgoedparken. Met hulp van Torbjörn Tyler kon achterhaald worden dat het om Hieracium monstrosum gaat, een soort die tot nu toe alleen bekend was van enkele landgoederen in Zweden.

Naar aanleiding van de vondst van deze soort gaan de auteurs in op de zogenaamde "graszaadadventieven".

In one of the latest volumes of Gorteria - Dutch Botanical Archives, Diemeer & Koopman report the first time observation of Carex bohemica in the Netherlands. It was found in the Province of North-Brabant at a private estate.

Taraxacum frisicum (sect. Palustria, Asteraceae) was long thought to be an endemic of the northern part of the Netherlands, but rather recent studies made clear it is conspecific with T. apiculatum of Central Europe. In a nice paper in a recent volume of Gorteria, Hofstra & Zijlstra elucidate the ecology of the species in the last remaining areas it is growing in the Netherlands. Most important factor in conservation of the last populations is undoubtly the water regime.

In the wake of the publication the checklist of Dutch brambles by Van de Beek et al. (2014; still to order, leave a message), a renewed interest in bramble research arose, which resulted in a large body of new data and knowledge. This lead to the discovery of several new species in areas which were thought to be very poor in brambles before. In one of the latest volumes of Gorteria -Dutch Botanical Archives, Karst Meijer & Bram van de Beek describe two new Corylifolii-species, viz. Rubus horridifolius and Rubus frieslandicus, both from the north of the province of Friesland.

In recent years several species of American cudweeds (Gamochaeta; Gnaphalium s.l.) have increasingly been recorded in Belgium and the Netherlands, especially (but not exclusively) in urban habitats. In a recent volume of Gorteria - Dutch Botanical Archives, Verloove et al. describe the three species which are present. Salicornia is a notorious difficult genus, due to the lack of usual characters. In a new volume of Gorteria - Dutch Botanical Archives Janssen, de Groot, Bovenschen & Kers published a combined morphological - genetical study of the genus in the Netherlands. They conclude that enough genetic evidence is available to distinguish S. procumbens subsp. strictissima and S. p. subsp. procumbens s.str. within the broad S. procumbens aggregate.

Rubus discolor has until now been an ambiguous name. The name was given in the early 19th century by Weihe & Nees, and later widely misused for various species with white felt at the dorsal side of the leaves. However, a positive identification was never established. In the latest volume of Gorteria - Dutch Botanical Archives, Bram van de Beek clarifies this long standing problem, and argues that Rubus discolor is conspecific with Rubus pseudargenteus, which was described by Weber in 1991.

In het nieuwe nummer van Gorteria - Dutch Botanical Archives beschrijven Karel Kreutz, Louis-Jan van den Berg en Benno te Linde de spectaculaire vondst van Orobanche amathystea nabij Tolkamer. De dichtstbijzijnde groeiplaatsen buiten ons land liggen bij Bonn in het Rijndal. Deze warmteminnende soort is kenmerkend voor de droge graslanden van de Festuco-Brometea. In ons land is de soort gevonden in een begroeiing die geclassificeerd wordt als Medicagini-Avenetum, dat floristische overeenkomsten heeft met de droge graslanden van de Festuco-Brometea.

De Nederlandse naam - Violette bremraap - moet met een korrel zout worden genomen, zoals de auteurs betogen, en het zou wellicht beter zijn om de Nederlandse naam te wijzigen in Kruisdistelbremraap, naar de waardplant.

In the latest volume of Gorteria - Dutch Botanical Archives, Koopman, Van Beusekom & Więcław describe the search for the identity of a Carex hybrid from the section Ammoglochin that was found near Amerongen in the Netherlands in 1954 for the first time. On the basis of thorough morfological comparisons, they conclude that the plant is a hybrid between C. colchica and C. pseudobrizoides. It is descirbed in their paper as C. ×parentii, after Georges Henri Parent, a Belgian botanist who was the first one recognising that the plant had to be a hybrid of C. colchica.
