Remembering DJSample7 aka Rinaldo Scholman

Somewhere around the early 2000's i got contacted by DJSample7 who told me my megamixes and especially the crazy edits in them inspired him to start creating sets as well. We started talking and turned out we both got inspired by the edits the late Peter Slaghuis would use in his disco and pop remixes at the end of the 80's of the previous century. Rinaldo send me one his megamixes and i was impressed with his work and his dedication. I was so impressed in fact i proposed to create something together which he found to be amazing and he was so very thankful for that, because well, that is just the kind of guy he was. We got together a couple of times but we spoke mostly online and our collaboration were done from distance where we both created four 20 minute mixes which one of us would edit together in into one continuous set.

For one of those collaborations i decided to tease him a bit and for the segment where i go completely crazy edits with my edits i added some sound bytes that said "DJ Sample 7...don't try this at home". Which was my way of saying "nice try but you're not there yet" which was of course all done in good fun. Rinaldo got the joke and when i got the complete set back i was surprised to hear he had added a sample from Vin Diesel to that very segment telling me to "not worry about it" which i found so funny and a great way to get back at me 😊

Although we weren't best friends we would keep in touch over the years and we would update each other on our work. I always tried to get him to come to a party with us but unfortunately that never happened. A couple of weeks ago i got the said news he had passed. If you scroll down there is a post with a message from his sons that i would encourage you to read if you liked Rinaldo's work. Rinaldo, rest in peace buddy, i wish we could have talked more. Your music, edits and megamixes will live on 🎶🎚️🥳🎉

Lieve volgers, hierbij een bericht van de zoons van Rinaldo Scholman, die jullie beter kennen als DJSample7. Ik wil jullie vragen dit bericht te delen met iedereen waarvan jullie weten dat het liefhebbers zijn van de megamixen van DJSample7. Op verzoek van zijn zoons plaats ik bij dit bericht een megamix van Rinaldo en mijzelf. Hier volgt het bericht:

"Beste Fans,

Via deze weg willen wij jullie laten weten dat onze vader (djsample7). Op 3 december vredig is heen gegaan. Onze vader was een grote liefhebber van hardcore muziek, vooral de samples wie hij maakte was hij erg trots op. Hij heeft meedere mixen gemaakt samen met Jason S en liet ons altijd alles luisteren wat hij maakte en wat hij deed. Onze vader was een trotse man! liefhebber van muziek en liefhebber van karpervissen.
Hij is 55 jaar oud geworden.
