Another year, another Phito food system. We are in Iasi in eastern Romania and tomorrow, our annual plenary meeting with all Phito project partners starts. But part of the team already arrived a few days earlier to explore the landscapes of the Moldavian Plateau and film for another episode of .

Phito works on ways to bridge the ‘Digital Divide’ (unequal access to digital tools) and we want to leave no one behind. That’s why the research team of Phito goes even a step further and looks into what’s beyond the ‘Digital Divide’.



When we talk about transitioning to more “green” ways of producing food, technology plays quite a big role. But technology is not so easily accessible to everyone. It costs money, or resources to learn to use it and big players often find more resources to transition to the “digital and green ways of farming.



That’s why with Phito, we talked to hundreds of small farmers around Europe and the Caribbean to learn what could help them transition to more green ways of farming and producing food. We work with the farmers to help them bridge the ‘Digital Green Divide’.

🇦🇱🍅📲Learning from Albanian farmers: Developing an app to support farmers means going out to meet them, learn from them and understand their needs. Their input does help us fix minor bugs but also guides us in deciding which future app features and functions to prioritise.

Big thanks to all the farmers 👩‍🌾👨🏾‍🌾 and local partners across Europe (not only Albania!) who work every day on making the Phito App better.

In the past weeks, the Delta del Po, like many of the EU landscapes suffered from a heatwave.

More heatwaves, mean shrinking rivers. In the area of Delta del Po, the sea is creeping up 18km inland.
Even though the Po Delta landscape’s beauty is real, so is the threat to what grows here: our food.

It’s the second year in a row that the Phito app development benefits from a team of students working hard towards improving the app features, especially in the local context of Valencia.

Thanks to our partner CACV, the students get some real-life consulting insights into developing innovative technologies for farming - the Phito App. But at the same time, the app benefits from invaluable insights generated entirely through the fresh vision of the Wageningen University students.

📱✋👩‍🌾The Phito App in the hands of farmers around Europe. We are still in the testing phase and their feedback determines our next steps.

We are currently planning what app features to develop next, improving usability and fixing some bugs.

We still have so many ideas of how to make the app even more useful to farmers but also other stakeholders but the current testing phase is a big milestone already.
