Tilbakemelding fra en amerikansk leser som har fått boka i gave fra en slektning i Alta:
I thoroughly enjoyed Solgunn's book and wanted to write a review in support of it. Please feel free to use my name and share.
Solgunn Solli presents a poignant and well-crafted account of life during the German occupation of Norway in World War II. This important story sheds light on the courage and sacrifices of Norwegian resistance fighters, many of whom gave their lives for their country's freedom. Through detailed storytelling and richly developed characters, Solli captures the complexity of wartime experiences—not only from the perspective of the patriots but also through the nuanced portrayal of Klaus, a German soldier whose story challenges simplistic notions of right and wrong.
As the child of a war-born mother from Bergen in 1943, I found the depiction of Klaus especially moving. Solli’s empathetic approach adds depth and humanity to a chapter of history that is too often reduced to black and white.
This book is not only an enlightening historical account, but also an invaluable resource for those interested in the German warship *Tirpitz* and its eventual takedown by the Allies, with critical support from Norwegian patriots. The author’s thorough research and captivating narrative make this story accessible to adults seeking a deeper understanding of World War II history. Additionally, the book’s format—featuring photos and informative textboxes—makes it suitable for younger readers, ensuring that the rich history is presented in a way that engages readers of all ages.
