It is with shattered hearts that we share the news that our beloved Maya passed away peacefully earlier today.
Our baby girl gave us 13 years and (a day under) 7 months of joy, laughs and furry cuddles. The typical lifespan for a German Shepherd is 9-12 years so we're so thankful for the time we were able to spend together - especially because it was Maya who brought us two together. We're too devastated to write any further thoughts but there's a post on reddit that has given us some comfort. Here's an excerpt that describes the initial stages of grief:
"In the beginning, the waves are 100 feet tall and crash over you without mercy. They come 10 seconds apart and don't even give you time to catch your breath. All you can do is hang on and float. After a while, maybe weeks, maybe months, you'll find the waves are still 100 feet tall, but they come further apart. When they come, they still crash all over you and wipe you out. But in between, you can breathe, you can function. You never know what's going to trigger the grief. It might be a song, a picture, a street intersection, the smell of a cup of coffee. It can be just about anything...and the wave comes crashing. But in between waves, there is life."
Have fun playing without any aches and pains on the other side and when it's our turn, wait for us at the gates. We love you so deeply and sorely miss you already.
