Dogmushing season has begun! 🐕-🐕-🛷

Here in Norway the temperatures are below 11°C in the eary mornings. The leaves are falling from the trees and changing colours and autumn is just around the corner 🍂

Beautiful early mornings with sunrises, fog and a bunch of crazy huskies exploding with high energy are finally doing what they love most! RUNNING! 🐺🐾❤️

Summer has ended and the dogs feel it...they know it...the colder it gets, the more energised the dogs become! 🐺💥

I had SO much fun filming these quick movements and editing them together with into sp*ed ramps 😍🎬 The result? 11 seconds of pure mushing and dog energy!❤️‍🔥🐺💥

If you gotta go, you gotta go, but how and when do sleddogs do their business while running for miles and miles? 🤔 🐺🐾👇🏻

𝘿𝙤 𝙄 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙞𝙛 𝙢𝙮 14.5-𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧-𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙗𝙤𝙮, 𝘾𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙚, 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙤?

Yes! ️✅️ Heck, we even stop if Cookie wants to smell the flowers 🪻
𝙒𝙝𝙮? Because if we keep going he simply won't be able to catch up with us. He isn't the youngest or the fastest anymore and that's okay cause we will happily wait for him and continue when he is done 🩵
Note that Cookie does not run the whole way anymore. He usually walks/hops/runs beside the team in the last part of the training.

𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙤𝙜𝙨?

Do I stop the team every time one of them needs to p*e or p**p?
Usually, no ❌️

My dogs have their own little system and most sleddog teams have this system:
The dogs are so focused on doing the thing they love - running - that stopping to p*e or p**p isn't always what the dogs want. They actually plan ahead, also learn it from the others or learn it from the musher during walks.
They'll do their business during the freerunning before they are being hooked up, during the freerunning after a run, during the breaks we take along the way and yes, they also do it while running 🐾

𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚'𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙮 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩...😃

My dogs are weird 😂🫶🏻

If they are the swing, team, wheel-dogs, they can apparently p**p while running without giving it a second thought and without slowing down.
BUT put them in lead and suddenly...

🚨 THIS IS AN EMERGENCY! WE MUST STOP! 🚨

Apparently, being a leaddog comes with bathroom p**py standards 🤷‍♀️😂

Do they also do this for p*eing? Nope. Only when they need to p**p. Do I agree with this? Nope 🤦🏼‍♀️
I ask them to keep moving and they will start moving again while p**ping, but yeah...it is what it is...😂

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙤?

As a musher, you also (need to!) learn to recognize when your dogs need to go. You know their individual body language, the little changes in how they move, their focus, their tail, their ears and their reactions.
Most of my dogs even turn their head towards me to tell me they have to go.
All this is just simply having good communication and trust between your dogs and you. This is very important and this is teamwork ❤️

𝘽𝙪𝙩...𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙤 𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙩...? 😂

The most obvious clue is when the p**phole starts getting bigger 😅

Yes, after years with sleddogs, the view never changes so as a musher you probably know the backends of your dogs better as the front of the dogs 😂 (kidding ;) )

It's all part of mushing and s**t happens!
