Annikka Saarikko broadcasts a support package to Eastern Finland: “The entire export and economic area is in a new situation”
According to Minister of Finance Annika Saarikko (Central), the greatest burden of scrapping Russia is on eastern Finland in particular.
ILTA-SANOMI's big NATO discussion on Tuesday highlighted how Finland's NATO membership and the Russian offensive war will affect Finland's image. So it is a question of how Finland is seen in the world and whether we dare to invest here.
However, in the discussion, Minister of Finance Annika Saarikko (center) highlighted Eastern Finland in particular, which, according to him, bears the greatest burden of scrapping Russia.
- The reality of the whole of Eastern Finland, whether it was about the economy, vitality, transport, transport connections or everyday interaction, Russian tourists, shopping trips, family relationships. This is all changing, Saarikko said.
Does Minister of Finance Saarikko think that a support package for Eastern Finland is needed in this context?
- In general, the entire export and economic area, Eastern Finland, is in a new situation. Although we have stated on many occasions that our state and our company are not fatefully linked to Russian trade, it has been about five percent of exports, in Eastern Finland the figure is higher regionally, Saarikko pointed out.
- Subcontracting chains, customer relations, not to mention the energy issue raised here, which is a big issue in Eastern Finland, for example.
According to him, Eastern Finland could receive some kind of financial support package as the war continues and relations with Russia continue to cool.
- Yes, it may also mean financial attention to this area in particular. But this is not a promise for any single road project. But now we need an understanding of what it all affects, Saarikko said.
