DJ mixing is definitely a hot topic these days.
The no-it-ruins-the-song part refers to beat matching, too many jingles, stopping the songs extensively after a break for instance, shorten the songs, elongate the intro.
All these tricks are there for DJs to feed their ego and create the buzz for their own crowd or impressing friends. Nothing to make the overall experience for dancers to be great.
Most active dancers that have been in the dancing scene for a while HATE it. Mark my words.
I have asked many of them, as I have been in the scene for while as a dancer (first) and many secretly told me the same thing.
Please. Organisers. Mention NO MIXING on your flyer. At least, people know what to expect before pressing the buying button of your festival.
