HALONG is the Ilonggo's way of expressing love or care for a person, especially when they send them off or when they say goodbye to, oftentimes with a hint of sadness when the person is going to a faraway place and for a very long time (Halong ka lang pirme or Take care of yourself always), or with joy when they know they would still see each other soon after that moment of parting.

Like the word ‘amlig’, the word “halong” is also used to mean to handle with care or to treat tenderly. Example of word usage: Halongi ang bata (treat the baby tenderly). You will typically hear Ilonggos say 'halong' in sweet and gentle Ilonggo accent when they part ways.
