Fifty years on, Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier — The Thrilla in Manila — remains a touchstone in sporting history: a collision of styles, politics and spectacle. Circus Bazaar Magazine publishes Mark Daniel’s feature examining the bout, the Marcos-backed promotion that staged it, and the social contradictions the fight exposed.

Defined in the twilight of the Civil Rights era’s divisive racial politics, fifty years on, The Thrilla in Manila remains boxing’s benchmark — pugilistic poetry and a brutal rivalry that still defines the sport today.

We are proud to share that Magazine artwork was chosen for the front cover of the Wallace Stevens Journal — published by Johns Hopkins University Press one of the world’s most prestigious academic publishers.

The cover painting, Tiger, was created by artist .bergstudios for our edition Catching Tigers in Red Weather. The thematics of that issue were conceived by Dr. Zac Rogers, drawing inspiration from Wallace Stevens’s poem Disillusionment of Ten O’Clock.

It was an honor to see Circus Bazaar Magazine represented on the cover of such a respected literary journal, bringing together poetry, art, and critical thought on a global stage.

In November 2021, The Circus Bazaar Company brought its creativity to the global stage at COP26. At the historic Stirling Castle, we developed and staged Nuclear Climate Change — an immersive opera exploring the dual existential threats of nuclear war and climate breakdown.

Presented by the International Forum for Understanding, this groundbreaking production was a true international collaboration. We brought together actors and musicians from across the world, combining an original script, original music composition, world-class theatre direction, and stunning visual effects and photography. The result was a performance that fused art and advocacy in a way rarely seen at global summits.

The opera featured a monologue by Asle Toje (Deputy Leader of the Norwegian Nobel Committee) and a keynote by Christine Parthemore (CEO of the Council on Strategic Risks), followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion.

Even the trailer itself is a work of art — capturing the atmosphere, scale, and creativity that defined this project.

For us at The Circus Bazaar Company, Nuclear Climate Change was more than a performance — it was proof of how imaginative storytelling can spark conversation and inspire new ways of thinking about the world’s most urgent challenges.

When we burned the American flag in the film Hate Speech (2022), it was never out of hatred for . It was because we believed America to be so free that such an act could exist without fear of retribution. That was the point of the film — to test the very boundaries of freedom of expression.

We burned books, we burned flags, and we held up a mirror to every faction across Western democracies that sought to suppress speech. It was not an attack; it was a celebration of liberty. It was art, and we remain proud of it.

Now Donald J. Trump wants to ban flag burning and lock people away for a year for doing it. If such a law were to exist, our film itself would become the evidence, and we would be branded criminals for creating art.

At the The Circus Bazaar Company, we reject that future outright. Freedom of speech is not a luxury to be handed out when convenient — it is an innate, fundamental, and unshakable right.

We will never stand by and watch it be dismantled.

📚✨ From the Circus Bazaar Company Archives

We recently added a remarkable piece to our collection: the first Norwegian edition of George Orwell’s Animal Farm, published in 1946/47 under the title Diktatoren: En moderne fabel.

Printed by Brann Forlag in Oslo, this edition is distinguished by its 12 original Norwegian illustrations — including the striking cover art of Napoleon the pig in full dictator regalia.

Much more than a translation, this book is an artifact of postwar Europe, when Orwell’s modern fable of power and corruption resonated with a continent still reeling from dictatorship.

At Circus Bazaar Company, we collect rare editions like these not just for their scarcity, but for the stories they carry across languages, borders, and decades.
