Originally we had the u47 set up for this particular vocal last week, and it sounded amazing. However, it wasn’t right for the sound we were going for, a warmer and more intimate vocal. The u67 didn’t let us down!

There’s so much content and so many videos made in Ocean Sound over the years.

There’s music videos, studio diaries, making of-films, acoustic and live versions and lot more. We thought it might be nice to gather these in a Youtube playlist.

Let us know if anything is missing!

Meet the newest member of the Ocean Sound crew: Marenius Alvereng!

Marenius was born and raised on the scenic and remote island of Grytøya in Northern Norway—so Giske feels familiar to him in many ways.

After discovering his passion for music through various bands and personal projects, Marenius moved to Liverpool to earn a degree in sound technology at LIPA.

He later relocated to London for an internship at the renowned Church Studios, founded by Paul Epworth. Following his internship, he continued to hone his craft, working with a wide array of talented artists as a freelance audio engineer under the Miloco Studios umbrella.

After an extended period in England, we are thrilled to welcome Marenius back to Norway as a full-time member of the Ocean Sound team.

Welcome aboard!

Get in touch if you want to work with Marenius.

There’s a huge feature of Ocean Sound and its founders, The Margarets, in the latest edition of D2 Magasin!

We’re really flattered that our passion and hard (but rewarding) work for Ocean Sound is recognised in this way! Thanks for visiting us; D2!

We had to take a little break and step outside with the camera to enjoy the totally stunning May day here on Giske yesterday.

Studio people (in general, I suspect) can get pretty low om vitamin d during the winter, so this is just what the doctor ordered!

This week we’re hosting a workshop session for four Norwegian talents with the aim to learn how to establish a long-term career as artists. This is a part of the Moment Talent program.

The program is a collaboration with Talent Norge, Sparebank1 SMN and Momentium
And the talents for 2025 is Marie Løvås, Severin Nautnes Dale, Live Hanken and Helene Opsahl Kjerstad.

One of the (few) differences of operating a studio in LA and on a tiny island on the west coast of Norway is that we can’t just call one of the many big rental companies last minute and get some rare, old instruments sent over.

Even though it’s possible to drive from London to Giske with a van full of your personal favorite gear, you have to set aside a handful of days for such a mission. Some artists have actually done it as a trip!

In the end, most of our clients arrive here by plane. This means that its always been important to us to have a rich selection of backline and instruments at hand. So you can travel light and still be able to express yourself in the best possible way in the studio!

In addition to the tried and tested stuff (Rat pedal and Supraphonic snare anyone?) we also keep some weird stuff that might help spark creativity in the right circumstance. How about channeling your inner ghost on the Stradivarius Saw on your next single?

The new band Oslo Vøst has taken over the studio this week. Lots of toys and tools for musical exploration available. Both in the live and control room.

Ocean Sound engineers Marenius Alvereng and Jaran Gustavson are helping them out to reach their sonic potential!

Last week we were lucky enough to get 6 days with gear guru Paul Bernard of Bernification Audio. What a champ!

It has slowly turned into a tradition to do a technical spring cleaning together with him every year!

This year both our dear Emt 140 plates needed attention. I am happy to say that Bernie breathed life into both!

In addition to Bernie our engineers; Jaran, Marenius and Henning also did their best to take care of big and small maintenance tasks. Among other stuff Henning changed some tubes and calibrated the Unfairchild, Marenius installed new speaker screws and baffle velcro on our Fender Twin and Jaran replaced power switches on our Orban 111b spring reverbs and mounted new tape in the Copicat. Studio manager Tonje handled the logistics!

I thought Time to repair which we recorded with piano player was a fitting soundtrack.

We also brought out some gold from our storage space. This is gear that we might keep floating about the studios; a Korg Sdd-3000 delay and Gr-1 spring, a Federal compressor, an extra 1176ln ++ All sounding magnificent!

We’re looking forward to try everything on upcoming sessions!
