«Hvilken rolle kan museers forpliktelse til å innsamle spille i forhold til å innlemme grenseoverskridende bevegelse i forskning og formidling?» Dette høyaktuelle spørsmålet drøftes av Mathias Dolmer Rasmussen i sin artikkel «Bevegende beviser: et argument for en grenseoverskridende museumsinnsamling». Rasmussen deler innsikter fra et feltarbeid i regi av det danske Immigrantmuseet som fulgte ukrainere på flukt gjennom Polen.

Ved å følge flukt på tvers av tider, steder og grenser, kan museer sette «vår tids transnasjonale og konstant foranderlige bevegelser i sentrum av det museale innsamlings-, forsknings- og formidlingsarbeid om migrasjon.»

Nordisk Museologi er opptatt av å belyse skjæringspunktet mellom teori og praksis. Som forfatteren av artikkelen vi omtaler her påpeker, har tidsskriftet også vist en vedvarende interesse for digitaliseringens rolle i museologi. Derfor er denne artikkelen av stor interesse for oss. 🖥🤓

I artikkelen «Formidlingsmedia og uttrykkspotensialet» undersøker Elin Tinuviel Torbergsen (konservator ved Lofotr Viking Museum) hvordan nye digitale formidlingsmetoder har fungert hos Nord-Norges mest besøkte museum.

Ved å analysere flere typer empiri, som multimodale medietyper og intervjuer med museumsguider, konkluderer Torbegsen med at innholdet som formidles på museet kunne tilpasses bedre de ulike mediene. Det er en viktig analyse som viser potensialet i å bruke digitale verkøy på museum.

”Denne artikel er et forsøg på via et indblik i praksisfeltet at bidrage til forskning i og debatten om, hvordan det politiske ønske om flere museumsoplevelser målrettet førskolebørn kan gribes og styrke både den museumsfaglige og pædagogfaglige praksis på området.”

Ved å analysere barnehagebarns reaksjoner til verker av kunsteren Piero Manzoni under prosjektet ”Home and Away version 0.0 – en kvalitativ undersøgelse af museet som eksternt læringsmiljø for de yngste”, skriver Anja Lemcke Stær en engasjerende tekst om potensialene ved å introdusere små barn til konseptkunst på museer.

Hva betyr ’autentisitet’ og hvordan forvalte det i praksis i et museum? Andreas Bjerre (Skagens Museum) tar opp disse alltid aktuelle spørsmålene i artikkelen ”Forvaltning, fortolkning og forhandling af autenticitet i et husmusem”. 🏡

Ved å analysere fire gjenstander i Anchers Hus, beskriver forfatteren hvordan forskjellige forståelser av autentisitetsbegrepet har bidratt til forskjellige forvaltningsbeslutninger under et gjenetableringsprosjekt på museet.

The impact of collecting on historical archives is explored through illuminating case studies in Emma Pihl Skoog's (Södertörns högskola) article "The collector as saviour or devastator".

Through the article, the author draws out "a fundamental tension between collecting practices and a traditional view of archives as authentic repositories governed by the principle of provenance". This distinction, she argues, is central to further reflection around both collecting and archival practices.

Sånn lyder det interessante forskningsspørsmålet til Celia Ekelund Simonsen og medforfattere i deres artikkel i den nye utgaven av Nordisk Museologi. Artikkelen "undersøger potentialet i at bruge fordomme som et udgangspunkt for at styrke samarbejdet mellem unge og museer."

Call for papers on Cultural Sustainability for NM 2, 2025:

Cultural sustainability complements the three classical pillars of sustainability — economic, social, and environmental — by introducing a fourth dimension that emphasizes the importance of cultural heritage and identity in sustainable development. However, the term is by no means unambiguous. For instance, some advocate for cultural sustainability as an independent concept, focusing on the preservation and revitalization of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Others argue that culture plays a significant role in shaping understanding and attitudes toward sustainability in a broad sense, i.e., culture is decisive for/in sustainable development.
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the role that culture plays in fostering community resilience and social cohesion, particularly in the face of global challenges such as climate change and social inequality. Despite this increasing awareness, there is limited empirical research on cultural sustainability within museology, and notably, there are no existing studies from Nordic museums. This gap highlights the need for a deeper understanding of how museums can contribute to cultural sustainability through their practices.
We seek articles that are either case-based, methodological or theoretically grounded, addressing the following themes:
A) Communicating Cultural Sustainability
How do Nordic museums and their collections communicate about cultural sustainability? What methods, strategies and approaches do they employ, and how does the audience receive the message?
B) Digital Technology and Cultural Sustainability
What role does the use of digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality (VR) in Nordic museums play in promoting cultural sustainability? How can these media support museums' dissemination and engagement around the topic?
C) Cultural Sustainability and Other Sustainability Dimensions
How can various learning activities focused on cultural sustainability influence other dimensions of sustainability, such as social, economic, and environmental? Conversely, how can these dimensions mutually reinforce one another in the work of museums?
D) Cultural Sustainability as a Cultural Policy Parameter
How can cultural sustainability be established as a goal within cultural policy and serve as a criterion for evaluating museums' performance and contributions to sustainable development?
We encourage researchers, museum professionals, and other interested parties to submit articles exploring the above themes. The articles should be in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish or English and can be based on cases, methods, or theoretical perspectives and should contribute to qualifying the concept of cultural sustainability across museum categories.
