Before Kathmandu became the valley we know today, a divine mystery unfolded in the sacred forests of Mrigasthali. 🌿✨

Legend tells that Lord Shiva, seeking peace away from the heavens, came to Nepal and transformed himself into a majestic deer. Hidden among the forests, he wandered freely until the gods finally discovered him. During their attempt to bring him back, one of his antlers broke and disappeared into the earth.

Centuries later, a miraculous Shiva Linga emerged from that very spot, revealing itself as Pashupati — the Lord of All Living Beings. Thus began the story of Pashupatinath, Nepal's most sacred temple and one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva.

A place where mythology, faith, and history come together. 🕉️🙏

Have you ever visited Pashupatinath?

Before kingdoms rose and before Kathmandu became a city of temples, a divine lotus bloomed from the ancient lake that once covered the valley. From that sacred lotus emerged the self-born light of Swoyambhu — the eternal flame of wisdom, believed to be self-created and self-existing.

Over centuries, kings, monks, artisans, and devotees protected and rebuilt this sacred site through invasions, destruction, earthquakes, and time itself. From ancient Licchavi rulers to the Malla kings, every era left its mark on the hill of enlightenment we see today.

Today, Swayambhunath stands not only as one of Nepal’s oldest spiritual sites, but also as a UNESCO World Heritage Site watching over Kathmandu for thousands of years with its all-seeing eyes.

A place where mythology, history, Buddhism, and Newa civilization become one.

High above the valley, hidden within forested hills, Changu Narayan Temple stood silently while kingdoms burned below.

During the invasion of the Kathmandu Valley by Sultan Shamsuddin Ilyas Shah of Bengal in the 14th century, many ancient settlements and temples faced destruction. Sacred shrines were looted, cities trembled, and centuries of art and devotion were lost to flames and war. Yet amidst that chaos, Changunarayan survived.

Not because it was protected by armies or fortified walls, but because it remained hidden — resting quietly atop a jungle-covered hill beyond the eyes of invading forces. While destruction swept across the valley, the temple escaped unnoticed, preserving within it some of Nepal’s oldest inscriptions, timeless stone sculptures, and the soul of ancient Newa civilization.

Today, every carved wooden strut, every stone guardian, and every prayer whispered through its courtyards carries the memory of survival. Changunarayan is not only a temple of faith, but a witness to resilience a monument that endured when history itself was under attack.

For centuries, the Kathmandu Valley suffered from a devastating khaderi

To bring rain and prosperity back, King Narendradeva, ta***ic master Bandhudatta, and Lalit Jyapu journeyed to Kamaru Kamakhya in Assam to bring Rato Machhindranath back to the valley.

Through devotion, wisdom, and sacrifice, the lord of rain was finally brought home giving birth to the centuries-old Rato Machhindranath Jatra that still unites the valley today

A story not just of a deity, but of hope, culture, and survival.

Buddha was born in Nepal… but Buddhism didn’t stay here
A Nepali princess Princess Bhrikuti carried it beyond borders to Tibet.
Through her marriage with Songtsen Gampo, this wasn’t just a royal union… it was a cultural bridge.
Sacred texts, art, architecture, and knowledge traveled with her.
And from there, Buddhism took root in a new land.
Nepal didn’t just give birth to Buddha
it helped shape Buddhism across the world

When devotion turns into dominance, we lose the true essence of faith.

The clashing of palanquins during Biska Jatra isn’t a battle of gods it’s a human interpretation that strays from its sacred roots. Ethically and spiritually, divinity doesn’t collide… it connects.

Tradition speaks of harmony where the gods meet through the exchange of prasād between their palanquins, symbolizing respect, balance, and unity.

Maybe it’s time we return to what the ritual was meant to be not conflict, but connection.
