The construction companies upgrading the TU cricket ground in Kirtipur are being fined for failing to complete the project on time. The work includes building a parapet and installing floodlights.
As per the agreement, the companies must pay a daily fine of 0.005% of the total project cost - over Rs. 2 lakh per day. Two joint venture firms had signed contracts worth Rs. 49.25 crore for the parapet and Rs. 47.37 crore for the floodlights.
Despite the delays, work is continuing under the penalty clause. By law, construction can continue for up to 200 days with daily fines. If the project remains incomplete after that, the companies risk being blacklisted.
The contractors say the project will be completed within a month. So far, 4,000 seats have been installed, three of the six floodlight poles are in place, and physical progress has reached about 77% for the parapet and 45% for the floodlights.
