Tribhuvan University’s Institute of Engineering (IOE) has decided to resume postponed bachelor-level exams from September 7 (22 Bhadra), just six days after the original schedule was postponed.
The decision has worried flood-affected students from Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and other districts. Many are still grieving, searching for missing family members, attending funerals, or dealing with damaged homes and blocked roads.
Divash Poudel, a Civil Engineering student from Rasuwa, said many students are not mentally prepared to sit for exams after losing people in the devastating floods.
Similarly, Sunil Magar, a Khwopa College of Engineering student, said he lost his uncle in the Betrawati flood and is currently in Arghakhanchi for the funeral rites. He said returning to Kathmandu is difficult because roads remain blocked.
Students on Reddit’s r/IOENepal have also criticized the new schedule, especially the fourth-year exams, which were reportedly shifted by only three days.
Some students, however, say exams should not be delayed too much because it could affect the academic calendar. They have suggested special exams or alternative arrangements for students directly affected by the disaster.
Students are asking: “How can we prepare for exams when we are still dealing with loss and trauma?”
