Rasuwa Flood Rescue Underway

A total of 29 injured people have been airlifted to safety following the devastating Rasuwa flood. The Nepali Army has deployed 6 helicopters, with 2 more on the way, while 3 drones are also supporting the ongoing rescue operation.

Rescue teams continue their efforts to reach and assist those affected.

Birgunj’s main road expansion has faced another legal hurdle after the High Court Janakpur’s Birgunj bench ordered a temporary halt following a writ petition by Nepal Telecom. The court has scheduled September 4 to decide whether the stay should continue.

The long-disputed 25-metre road expansion has already affected around 1,200 structures. The latest case also raises concerns over the management of telecom, electricity and water infrastructure along the road.

167 sub-engineers in Nepal’s Department of Water Resources and Irrigation are protesting after a new O&M structure cut sub-engineer positions by 65%, leaving them classified as surplus.

The permanent government employees have staged a four-day sit-in at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, arguing that the decision unfairly sidelines them.

Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has invited representatives of the protesting employees for talks today to discuss the issue.
