Why Do Physios Run Onto the Field with an Ice Pack? 🏏 Nepal Cricket Team Physio Explains | OUHM

🏏 Ever wondered why a physiotherapist rushes onto the cricket field carrying an ice pack whenever a player goes down?In this insightful clip from Beyond the WhiteCoat Season 2, Mr. Prayoush Neupane, the official physiotherapist of the Nepal National Cricket Team, explains what really happens during those moments.Prayoush says that what viewers see on television is only a small part of the job. Should You Apply a Herbal Paste on a Sprained Ankle? A Physiotherapist Answers | OUHM

🦶 In Nepal, many people apply a traditional herbal paste ("lep") or tightly bandage a sprained ankle after an injury. But does it actually help?
In this informative clip from Beyond the WhiteCoat Season 2, Mr. Prayoush Neupane, official physiotherapist of the Nepal National Cricket Team, shares his perspective on this common cultural practice.
Rather than dismissing it outright, Prayoush explains that these traditional methods may encourage the injured person to rest, provide some compression or support and help reduce movement, which can be beneficial during the early stages of recovery.
He also explains that Grade 3 ligament injuries often require proper immobilization, such as a cast or other medical management. However, for many less severe sprains, appropriate functional movement and rehabilitation are important parts of recovery, as prolonged complete immobilization is not always the best approach.
Prayoush emphasizes that he does not view every traditional practice negatively. Instead, he believes it is important to understand why people use them while combining cultural wisdom with evidence-based medical care for the best outcomes.

A Toothache Inspired His Medical Career 🦷 The "Magic" That Made Him Choose Anesthesiology | OUHM

🦷 Sometimes, one unforgettable moment can shape an entire career.
In this inspiring clip from Beyond the WhiteCoat Season 2, Dr. Amit Sharma Bhattarai, Consultant Anesthesiologist and Critical Care Specialist, shares the personal experience that first sparked his interest in anesthesiology.
While studying in 10+2, Dr. Amit suffered from severe tooth pain. Despite taking painkillers and applying clove oil, nothing seemed to relieve the pain. He eventually visited Teaching Hospital, where a doctor administered a local anesthetic injection.
Within moments, the pain disappeared.
Dr. Amit recalls feeling as if it was magic. At that time, he knew very little about the field of anesthesiology, but the immediate relief left a lasting impression. He remembers thinking, "If I could become someone who performs this kind of magic for people, that would be incredible."
That single experience became one of the inspirations behind his journey into anesthesiology and critical care medicine.
💙 Sometimes the smallest patient experience leads to the biggest career decisions.

"Anesthesiologists Are Like Pilots" ✈️ A Surgeon's Perfect Analogy | OUHM

✈️ What do pilots and anesthesiologists have in common?
In this insightful clip from Beyond the WhiteCoat Season 2, Prof. Dr. Uttam Kumar Sharma, a senior surgeon, shares a brilliant analogy to explain the vital role of an anesthesiologist during surgery.
Dr. Uttam compares anesthesiologists to airline pilots. Just as pilots are under the greatest pressure during takeoff and landing, anesthesiologists face their most critical moments during the induction of anesthesia before surgery begins and the emergence from anesthesia as the patient wakes up.
He explains that while parts of the surgery may appear relatively stable, anesthesiologists remain constantly vigilant. If unexpected complications or "turbulence" arise during the operation, they are immediately responsible for stabilizing the patient and ensuring every vital function remains under control.
Dr. Amit Sharma Bhattarai, Consultant Anesthesiologist and Critical Care Specialist, joins the discussion, highlighting the teamwork between surgeons and anesthesiologists. While the surgeon performs the operation, the anesthesiologist continuously monitors the patient's heartbeat, blood pressure, breathing and overall safety.
🩺 Surgery is a team effort, and every successful operation depends on both the surgeon and the anesthesiologist working together.
