There is an acute shortage of cooking gas (LPG) in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. People are unable to obtain gas even after waiting in long queues. The situation has worsened—with gas supplies virtually cut off—after the main highway connecting Kathmandu was blocked due to the Bhote Koshi floods. Rastriya Banijya Bank Limited and the Deposit and Credit Guarantee Fund have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the Single Borrower Agricultural Loan Guarantee Scheme.

According to the MoU, the Agricultural Loan Guarantee Scheme will be implemented in nine local levels: Panchkhal Municipality of Kavrepalanchok; Chandannath Municipality, Patarasi Rural Municipality, and Tatopani Rural Municipality of Jumla; Birendranagar Municipality of Surkhet; Budhiganga Municipality, Budhinanda Municipality, and Triveni Municipality of Bajura; and Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City of Kailali.

Under the scheme, an investment of up to Rs. 16 crore will be made over a period of two years, at the rate of Rs. 8 crore per local level. The scheme provides for loans ranging from Rs. 250,000 to Rs. 30 million per customer, with a loan tenure of up to seven years. Rastriya Banijya Bank

The price of gold in the Nepali market has decreased by Rs. 2,400 per tola. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold has been fixed at Rs. 301,900 per tola today, down from Rs. 304,300 yesterday.

Similarly, the price of silver has decreased by Rs. 35 per tola. Silver, which was priced at Rs. 4,725 per tola the previous day, is now priced at Rs. 4,690 per tola.
