At the heels of April 2015 earthquake, within a week BBC Media Action and BBC Nepali Service launched the 15 minutes long lifeline radio programme, Milijuli Nepali (Together Nepal) as an immediate response to the disaster. In the following weeks, it became a full-fledged radio programme providing earthquake-affected people with lifesaving information about where to receive aid and how to stay safe

and healthy. In the mid of 2016 as the context evolved from recovery to reconstruction, Milijuli Nepali also took on a new role focusing on the rebuilding and reconstruction of the earthquake safe homes. During the Reconstruction Radio Programme phase, Milijuli Nepali focused on providing information about building to code and support available for communities from the government and other agencies. The programme inspired people to be self-reliant and motivated families and communities to rebuild resilient. In addition to reconstruction, Milijuli Nepali shared information on Seismic Retrofitting of Unsafe Housing, creating an awareness on the benefits of repairing and reinforcing damaged houses. Over the years, Milijuli Nepali has become a household name in the 14 earthquake affected districts. BBC Media Action started working in these districts straight after the earthquake providing valuable life-saving information to support communities to rebuild during the reconstruction phase. It has provided practical engaging, trustworthy and appealing information to people and has earned its reputation as a trusted brand. On August 2020, Milijuli Nepali was relaunched as a 10-minute long daily radio magazine programme under the project Lifeline Communication: Communicating vital health information related to COVID-19 in Nepal on supporting effort to address the ‘info-demic’ surrounding COVID-19. It aimed to provide communities with correct information on COVID-19. At present, Milijuli Nepali is focusing on issues of child protection and safeguarding through The Blossom Project. Milijuli Nepali is a daily programme broadcast in 7 provinces and 48 districts with 61 radio stations: Radio Nepal as national broadcaster, 30 community radios, 10 private radios, 4 previous partners from lifeline project and 6 partner radio stations from the blossom project, 5 partners from girl’s education booster project and 5 self-interested radio stations.
