The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has announced a nationwide ban on bridge course classes, with the decision set to take full effect from April 1. These preparatory classes, typically conducted before school-level promotions and higher education admissions, will no longer be allowed to operate across the country. The move comes as part of a broader effort to reform the education system and ensure a more equitable academic environment.

According to the ministry, bridge courses have been found to negatively impact students’ psychological well-being while also creating inequality in access to education. Officials stated that such programs place unnecessary financial pressure on families, favoring those who can afford additional coaching. The decision was made during the tenure of Education Minister Sasmita Pokharel, marking a significant policy shift aimed at reducing academic commercialization and promoting fairness in Nepal’s education system.
