Siraha – Police have arrested a suspect involved in a robbery at the Global IME Bank branch in Kalyanpur, Siraha, in which NPR 900,000 was looted.

According to Birendra Kumar Paswan, Spokesperson for the District Police Office and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), the arrested individual has been identified as 30-year-old Sujendra Lohani, a resident of Triyuga Municipality-12 in Udayapur. He was apprehended from Khairtok, located in Siraha Municipality-17.

Lohani was allegedly involved in a robbery that took place on February 22, 2023 (Falgun 10, 2079 BS), near Bataha Bridge in Mirchaiya Municipality-3. On that day, a group of four, including Lohani, intercepted bank staff and a police officer who were transporting cash from the Global IME Bank's Mirchaiya branch. The gang used pistols to threaten and rob them, arriving on motorcycles without license plates.

The robbers assaulted police constable Nikesh Khawas, who was stationed at the Kalyanpur Area Police Office, and seized NPR 900,000 from the bank employees before fleeing the scene.

After the incident, Lohani had been hiding in India. He was recently arrested in the border area of Khairtok, Siraha, and has been presented before the Siraha District Court for further legal proceedings, police confirmed. #
