झापा–५ मा बालेन शाहलाई रोक्ने रणनीतिअन्तर्गत हर्क साम्पाङले ‘श्रम संस्कृति पार्टी’बाट समिर तामाङलाई उम्मेदवार बनाएपछि राजनीतिक सरगर्मी बढेको छ। स्थानीय स्तरमा जनसमर्थन विस्तार गरिरहेका बालेनलाई चुनौती दिन नयाँ शक्ति र वैकल्पिक धारका नेताहरू सक्रिय देखिएका छन्। यस कदमले झापा–५ को चुनावलाई केवल उम्मेदवारीको प्रतिस्पर्धा होइन, वैकल्पिक राजनीति बनाम पुराना समीकरणको ठूलो भिडन्तका रूपमा पनि प्रस्तुत गरिदिएको छ। अब यो क्षेत्रमा कसले जनताको भरोसा जित्छ—चर्चा झन् तातिँदै गएको छ।

Since Gagan is in the driver’s seat, Oli will be compelled to give up UML’s leadership right after the election, and that sudden transition could create a serious internal crisis. UML may soon realize that it can no longer survive by exploiting the weakness and uncertainty of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba; instead, it will be pushed back to its real strength and limitations. Any attempt to build a UML–Congress coalition for the coming elections is likely to collapse, and as in the past, Congress and the alternative democratic forces will again emerge as strong competitors. The so-called “two-party system” narrative built on Congress–UML cooperation will fail completely, and the era of two big parties teaming up just to control power may finally come to an end.

UML will increasingly feel alone and isolated under the combined pressure of the Gen-Z wave, the revival of older leaders, and the rapid rise of new parties. At the same time, Oli’s mindset—driven by ego, personal interest, and short-term strategy—may begin to reflect inside Congress as well, especially through the influence of the Deuba circle. Even if UML tries to suppress the Gen-Z revolt, the feeling of regret inside the party will only deepen: why did we allow Oli to keep winning again and again under the name of party leadership? And when Congress can gradually transform through a polite, managed, and generational shift, the question will arise even more strongly—why couldn’t the same change happen inside UML?
