🎉 With the year coming to a close, the motu is alive with celebrations that showcase the brilliance of our Pacific youth. These moments remind us why our work matters, to uplift, equip, and create space for their leadership.

A standout from last week, witnessing the Young Enterprise Awards and the emerging innovation from our Pacific students. This year, Tuala Victor Vaauli presented the National Excellence Award for Pasifika Business on behalf of Pacific Business Trust, who sponsored this category. It’s our commitment to elevating and championing Pacific leadership at every level.

Congratulations 👏🏽 to De La Salle College, Breath of Pacific for receiving the National Excellence Pasifika Award. Your success reflects vision, culture, and community strength. We rise together!! 👆🏽

Meet Mulipola Albert

Born at Middlemore Hospital and proudly Samoan, Albert grew up as the youngest boy in his family. “My older sisters acted like brothers. They would beat me up, LOL.”

Albert now lives in Manukau and has just hit a big personal milestone. “We moved house yesterday and my 18 month old son now has his own room. I am so proud of that, we are setting up his room with a little table, toys and a screen so he can watch his cartoons.”

With a background in science and chemistry, Albert originally wanted to become a doctor of medicine.

His career has since grown in a different direction, with experience across leadership and learning and development, and now into his role supporting Pacific businesses at Pacific Business Trust.

If he is not travelling across the regions, you will usually find Albert designing new service programmes or preparing for evening workshops. “I love meeting new people with new ideas in different parts of the country,” he says. “That really fascinates me, seeing new skills and new ways of thinking.”

Alongside his work at PBT, Albert is also a business owner. “We operate seven mobile food trailers around the country. So I really understand what it feels like to be in business and the challenges involved."

Before Albert started at PBT, he went to Samoa and was bestowed a Matai title from his father’s village. The experience was truly breathtaking and he now has an opportunity to lead and give back to his family, his people and his culture. Around the same time he was also offered the role at PBT, and it really felt like it was meant to be.

“I am here to serve my community and give back to them.”

His commitment to serving Pacific communities started at home. “I made a promise to my parents that at some stage in my career I would give back to the community,”.

What he loves most about working at Pacific Business Trust is how much the team has grown together in the last year.

“I love the resilience & growth within our team at PBT. It has been a journey to get to where we are now. It is really great to be able to show our growth by offering amazing opportunities and funding for Pacific businesses and our turnaround time is getting shorter and shorter, 2026 is going to be game changer for PBT and Pacific businesses”.
