I’m Rebecca Leah :) I come from the beautiful land down under, which we call Australia. At the moment, I’m living in New Zealand with my partner for a bit of an adventure. I’ve been in love with sewing since Home Economics class in High School, but I never really knew what I wanted to do with it…until now. It has taken me on a great journey over the years and I often find myself amazed at how life

works out and how each person’s path is created. In my case, it has been opportunity after opportunity just popping up out of the blue, and I firmly believe in grabbing onto those opportunities every chance I get. For the past 7 years or so, I have been working as an editor and that is really where I focused my career, but it somehow all came back to sewing. I ended up as the commissioning editor for Love Sewing Australia, which combined both sewing and editing for the magazine – I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect job. After having such an in depth look into the world of craft, I simply had to be a part of it. So I started Rebecca Leah Studios as a place to share my designs, passion, knowledge and love of craft.

Well it looks like I'm finally back :) My sewing machine has arrived from Germany and I'm so excited to have finished my first project for the baby room!

Hi everyone, it's well past time that I posted an update. So many unexpected things happened in 2015! I spent the last few months of the year renovating, we were excited to find out we are having a baby and now we've moved to New Zealand. So I'm sure you can imagine how busy life has been. My sewing machine will arrive in New Zealand in 3 months time, so you can expect to start seeing some cute baby projects just before our little boy is born :)

Just a quick update to let everyone know I'm still here. I had to fly back to Australia unexpectedly in May because my dad passed away and, since coming back to Germany, we've moved house and are in the middle of lots of renovations. We finally got the internet connected today so, as soon as we sort out my sewing studio, I'll started posting some new goodies and projects online :)

I'm feeling just a teeny bit extravagant with my new reading umbrella and summer dress in the new Tula Pink Elizabeth fabric range. Now I can read outdoors without trying to hide from the sun :) The Simple Sew Patterns ruby dress pattern came with Issue 4 of Love Sewing Australia magazine and was so easy to make. I think it's time for a picnic, don't you? :)

My fabric has arrived! I've had to resist the temptation to start on the dress all day so I can catch up on a few things. Plus, I kind of just like looking at it laid out how it is lol. But I think it's finally time to start cutting…

I've finally ordered some fabric from the new Tula Pink Elizabeth range and I'm so excited for it to arrive! I had to wait a few weeks for it to become available in Germany while everyone else was sewing away making some gorgeous projects. Only a few more days and I can finally make the dress I've had in mind :D

I just had to test out the lovely SewGirl tunic pattern that came with Issue 5 of Love Sewing Australia and what better choice of fabric than the pretty Millefiori Hearts fabric by Sarah Fielke :) The perfect outfit for some fun in the sun!

One of the hard things about starting a new business is knowing what to do when - there a so many possibilities that it can leave you feeling confused and a little daunted. A little bit of organisation goes a long way, so I created a weekly plan for my future self to follow :) Thanks Flying Solo for the inspiration. I'm already working on today's tasks and it feels good to have a little direction. Of course, there is room to be spontaneous too!
