Misinterpretation is a gorgeous and propulsive debut set in present-day New York City. The novel follows an Albanian interpreter who reluctantly agrees to work with Alfred, a Kosovar torture survivor, during his therapy sessions.

She soon becomes entangled in Alfred's nightmares stirring up her own buried memories. As ill-fated decisions stack up, jeopardizing the nameless narrator’s marriage and mental health, she takes a spontaneous trip to reunite with her mother in Albania, where her life in the United States is put into stark relief.

We are owl-fficially backing Team Ruru in Bird of the Year 2025! 🦉

Nocturnal and seldom seen, ruru are something of an enigma. Despite rarely showing their face, they provide a haunting and beautiful soundtrack to the dark hours.

Team Ruru represents the night owls among us, and Bird of the Year is a chance to bring ruru out of the darkness and into the spotlight.
