Imagine your child’s school publishes a photo of your child smiling proudly holding an award.

A day or two later you get a message from a horrified friend - someone has taken the photo and used Twitter’s chat bot to sexualise the image. They’ve used a prompt to strip your child’s clothes.

What do you do? You would think the answer would be easy. Go to the police.

Well we asked the police what parents should do and they told us to do an OIA.

Online, parents have been told to go to Netsafe.

Netsafe’s website tell you to report the image to X which you’ve already done. It asks if you who made the image - you don’t know.

You file a report through Netsafe. Nothing happens. You complain. You get a response offering a call to explain their scope and role.

You go to DIA and report it on their website. You think you’ve done that right but who knows?

Meanwhile the pa******le who did this to your child downloads another image of a child from a media story about their success in sport.

They prompt the chatbot to take their clothes off.

Anyone who has a child in their life should be horrified by this.

Been seeing some of the worst animal harm images of my life at work lately and today has been my first day without a cigarette as I try again to quit, so I’m feeling pretty sour and crabby. But on the other hand, this picture of Tori made me laugh- it’s SO 90s in every possible way. So it became agitprop that also makes me laugh.

Preliminary results from last week’s Māori wards referendums show strong national support, with over 444,000 voting yes compared with around 257,000 voting no - a difference of nearly 200,000 votes. While 17 councils voted in favour, 25 councils voted for the disestablishment of their Māori ward. Final results are expected later this week.
